The Wife You Buried Is Back from Hell novel Chapter 99

Channing's gaze was so scornful and intense that Danielle couldn't ignore it, no matter how hard she tried.

Back when she'd worked at Davidson & Co., people like him had never once looked at her with an ounce of respect.

She refused to let his attitude get to her now, keeping her expression neutral and her eyes forward.

Channing, seeing her act as if she didn't even recognize him, rolled his eyes internally. What was she so proud of, anyway? Sure, she was easy on the eyes, but aside from her looks, what did she really have to offer?

In the meeting room, Danielle sat quietly beside Gian, waiting.

A moment later, Millie pushed open the door and walked in.

Danielle froze for a split second when she saw her.

"Hey, sis-in-law." Millie didn't seem surprised. "When I was heading over, I wondered if you might come with Mr. Atwood—turns out I was right."

She took a seat at the table, her smile polite but measured as she turned to Gian. "Mr. Atwood, nice to meet you. Normally, our head of tech would be handling this, but he's away on business, so I'll be representing the team today."

Gian raised an eyebrow. "You work at Davidson & Co. now?"

Millie shook her head. "Not exactly. But Alex and I grew up together—what's his is mine, and I have the authority to make the call."

Danielle said nothing, her face calm as ever.

Back when she'd been at the company, Alexander would never let her near any core projects, let alone the tech division. And now, without even officially joining the team, Millie could waltz in and speak for the entire Davidson Group like it was nothing.

She was acting every bit the lady of the manor.

To her credit, Millie's work ethic was impeccable—businesslike, professional, and all about the job.

In the end, they hammered out the terms for a renewal, though the contract would be signed later and a few clauses still needed ironing out.

Millie stood, offering Gian a firm handshake. "Mr. Atwood, I've always thought highly of Ninesky. I believe you have great potential."

Then, turning to Millie, he said, "Let's go."

Danielle understood perfectly.

Millie had been abroad for years, so she and Alexander rarely had time alone. Now that she was back, of course Alexander would want to spend every spare minute with her—business or not, he'd carve out time for dates to keep their relationship going strong.

Millie knew Alexander and Danielle's marriage was a secret at the company. As she passed Danielle, she shot her a look that was half sympathy, half mockery, and whispered, "If this wasn't the office, I'd invite you to join us."

To Danielle, the comment was like a slap in the face—Millie could flaunt her presence in the open, while Danielle, the so-called wife, had to stay in the shadows. What good was a wedding ring if you were only ever a secret?

Alexander hadn't looked at Danielle once from the moment he'd appeared until he left with Millie.

Channing glanced Danielle's way, clicking his tongue in mock pity, as if watching a fool who didn't know her place. With Alexander's childhood sweetheart here, Danielle—the woman who'd once foolishly dreamed of warming Mr. Davidson's bed—was now nothing but a sideshow.

Gian's brow furrowed as if he wanted to say something, but Danielle quietly reached over and stopped him.
