Hearing those words, Danielle’s hand tightened instinctively, her gaze icy as she stared him down.
“You’re just refusing a fair offer when you could have worked this out like adults,” Orson sneered. “If you’d talked to me properly, I wouldn’t be threatening you with this. You know I have leverage. Your mother’s been trying to divorce me, but I’ve refused. All these years, she still hasn’t managed to break free.”
“Now, if you help me just a little, I’ll agree to the divorce. I’ll even walk away from the assets.”
Danielle’s brows drew together.
“What did Leanne and Millie offer you that you’d go this far?” she asked, her voice low.
He was even willing to discuss divorce—something he’d dragged out for years—and to give up the family fortune he’d always coveted, all for Millie.
Orson really did have her by the throat.
Her mother had wanted a divorce for so long, but things were always left unsaid, unsettled. After so many years of marriage, the finances were hopelessly entangled. If they did split, Orson would walk away with half of the Davidson estate.
But the problem was, he didn’t want the divorce.
Orson’s threat struck at her most vulnerable point.
No wonder, Danielle thought bitterly. No wonder he could be so brazen, so utterly unafraid of her refusal.
She clenched her jaw, glaring at him without a word.
“If you stay silent, I’ll take that as a yes,” Orson pressed. “We can sign an agreement, even a contract. As long as Millie gets out safely, I’ll divorce your mother.”
“You care about her a lot,” Danielle said coldly.
Orson frowned.
The woman before him was far too calm, too composed. For the first time, doubt crept into his anger.
“Millie is more filial than you ever were. She’s better suited to be my daughter.” His words were sharp as knives. “You’re already in the position you wanted. Why make things harder for her?”
Every sentence hit its mark.
Her own father would do anything for Millie, yet when Danielle was a child with a fever, he hadn’t even bothered to check on her. As if she wasn’t his daughter at all.
Danielle let out a cold laugh. “I’m afraid I can’t help you. This is a matter of national security. If you want to negotiate, talk to the authorities.”
Orson hadn’t expected her to refuse, even now that he’d offered the biggest bargaining chip he had.
“Don’t you care about your mother’s happiness?” he demanded. “Are you really that selfish?”
Danielle’s voice was ice. “If you want my mother to divorce you, I have a thousand ways to make that happen. But before that, I want you to watch your precious daughter go to prison.”
With that, she said nothing more, taking Niki’s hand and heading for the apartment complex.

Where is Chapter 545 - 554? I thought there'll be 9-10 chapters per update....
I knew it! He’s in love with her but he thinks she loves his brother!...
Oh poor Bianca... regrets, regrets :)...
This is it! Revenge. Way to go Dani....
OMG! Chapters 451-462 had me on edge. I wish we could also read Alexander's POV. I swear I want to punch him and Millie. This story is kind of a push and pull. The main character will win some, then lose some. Hope the writer gives Danielle a big win....
I hope not a lot of important dialogues get cut out, especially between Danielle and Alexander. But I can't complain, really. Thank you again for the updates....
I'm already in chapter 432 ATM and I have the impression that the story is so slow. Daniele remains in the dark, her reputation is low and inexistent, her accomplishment and professional abilities are stiĺl hidden, her enemies are taking the joy in humiliatihg her. No evolution in the plot? Please don't stay long in this, readers might lose interest in the long run....
Please update...
The last chapter was too short. More pls. Thank you....
Lovin' this. More more pls!...
