The man’s voice was calm—so calm, in fact, that it seemed as if none of this mattered to him at all.
A strange sense of panic welled up in Millie’s chest, though she couldn’t quite put her finger on the reason.
He’d just said it, as if it were the most casual thing in the world: that she should swallow her pride and go plead with Danielle.
But at this point, there didn’t seem to be any other way.
Raffy’s true identity had to remain hidden.
Even if it would clear the Davidson family’s name, Millie had never considered revealing that Raffy wasn’t actually related to them by blood.
If she was honest, part of the reason she’d called Alexander today was to see how he would handle things.
He made it clear he had no intention of exposing anyone, at least not yet. Still, his words left her feeling unsettled.
“Alex.” Millie’s voice was barely more than a whisper. “I really didn’t know about her background. Do you think I was just too naïve, always making her my assistant?”
Now, the reality had slapped her hard across the face.
She’d always assumed Danielle was just an airhead—clueless, good for nothing.
But today, she realized something painfully clear: she and Danielle had never even been playing the same game, let alone starting at the same line. They lived in completely different worlds.
It stung to realize that the woman she’d always looked down on was now quietly laughing at her. No one could swallow that kind of humiliation easily.
Alexander’s voice was steady, almost grave. “How much do you think your pride is really worth?”
There was a deeper meaning in his question, as if he was asking whether she wanted to cling to her pride—or actually secure her future.
But would Danielle really agree to help, just because Millie asked? That was far from certain.
Still, it was the only card she had left to play.
With a sigh, Millie rubbed her temples, pain radiating with every breath.
“I honestly have no idea what to do anymore... I don’t think I ever did anything to really offend her, but now, all of this—”
The mess she found herself in wasn’t something that could be cleaned up with a check or fixed overnight. She felt like she was running in circles, desperate and lost.
Across town, Alexander stared in silence at the data on his computer screen, his voice as composed and unwavering as ever when he finally spoke.
“Maybe it’s my fault for announcing our divorce at the graduation party.”
There was a faint trace of a smile in his words.
The comment sent a chill down Millie’s spine.
That hadn’t been her intention at all.
Alexander’s public announcement had been to protect her reputation. But Danielle, on the other hand, had openly revealed the truth about Raffy.
Millie bit her lip hard. “That’s not what I meant.”

Where is Chapter 545 - 554? I thought there'll be 9-10 chapters per update....
I knew it! He’s in love with her but he thinks she loves his brother!...
Oh poor Bianca... regrets, regrets :)...
This is it! Revenge. Way to go Dani....
OMG! Chapters 451-462 had me on edge. I wish we could also read Alexander's POV. I swear I want to punch him and Millie. This story is kind of a push and pull. The main character will win some, then lose some. Hope the writer gives Danielle a big win....
I hope not a lot of important dialogues get cut out, especially between Danielle and Alexander. But I can't complain, really. Thank you again for the updates....
I'm already in chapter 432 ATM and I have the impression that the story is so slow. Daniele remains in the dark, her reputation is low and inexistent, her accomplishment and professional abilities are stiĺl hidden, her enemies are taking the joy in humiliatihg her. No evolution in the plot? Please don't stay long in this, readers might lose interest in the long run....
Please update...
The last chapter was too short. More pls. Thank you....
Lovin' this. More more pls!...
