As I looked into Quinn’s eyes, I saw the burning passion in them.
“Why?” I didn’t get why she would go to these lengths.
She smiled gently and gazed at me with a serious look on her face. “I admire your capability and approve of your character. I can see you doing great things in the future.
“You might’ve come from a modest family, but you put in a lot of work with what you’ve been given, and that makes you better than a lot of people.
“You’ll be of great help to me and Solstice Global Estates. I don’t want to miss out on you.” Quinn went straight to the point, laying her thoughts bare without reservation.
I had never gotten such a heartfelt approval from a lady. Pouring Quinn a glass of red wine, I asked half–jokingly, “Did Camille send you over or something?”
She took the glass, leaving a red lipstick mark on the rim by the time she put it on the table.
“Her? Please.” Quinn tapped the table gently with her lean fingers. Grabbing my phone, she swiftly keyed in a phone number. A moment later, her phone rang, and she hung up with a
look of satisfaction.
“Make sure you tell me when your company opens its doors for business. I will be there with bells on and gifts in my hands!”
After that, Quinn rose and left the private room.
I saved her number and named her “Cheeky Quinn“. I walked over to the reception and was
about to settle the tab, but the serving staff informed me that she had paid for the meal.
After a brief moment of hesitation, I pulled out my phone and sent Quinn a text. “Next time, it’s on me.”
“I’m gonna hold you to it!” She replied to my text so quickly that I wondered if she had been holding her phone and waiting for my text.
In any case, meeting Quinn gave me some solid good news today. Once my company came into shape, it would be a good move to collaborate with her. If my company could shoot to fame with Solstice Global Estates by my side, it would be the black horse that took world by
storm.
Just as hope was swelling in my chest, my phone rang once again, sharp and urgent. The irritating name popped into my sight–Camille.
I wouldn’t have answered her call if I could avoid it, but she was in charge of the project in Northborough’s new neighborhood. The liability would be mine if I refused to answer her call when she had something to update me.
Chapter 36
There was a week left until 1 was out of Layton Group for good. If I could help it, I wanted to spend my last week faithfully doing my duty with peace of mind. If I could achieve that, I would’ve done right by Benson.
The last thing I wanted was to make a mistake and become the subject of gossip.
“Hello?” The moment I answered the phone, I immediately heard Camille’s grating voice.
“Max, where the hell have you been? Do you have any idea how filthy and disgusting this godforsaken place you arranged for me is?
