Chapter 98
It felt ridiculous that Camille and Desmond made up. But I knew that it was just a deal between them.
Camille’s smile grew even more smug when she heard Desmond’s words.
“Max, what exactly are you doing here today? Don’t tell me that you’re jealous of Desmond and me being together. Keep dreaming if you think that you and I could ever happen. Here’s some advice. Stop wasting your feelings on me. I would never look your way,” Camille scoffed, clearly lost in her own delusions.
I didn’t know what to say to that, so I just sat down with Sophia.
Desmond looked curious and asked, “Camille, what do you mean by that?” It seemed that he only knew bits and pieces about Camille and me. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have asked such a question.
“Mr. Zenn, you probably don’t know this, but this bastard has been hanging around the Layton family for three years. It might look like he’s after money, but it’s really all about me!” Camille said proudly, laying out her theory.
Desmond raised an eyebrow. “Oh? Is that so?”
“Of course! Otherwise, why do you think he obeys me so blindly?” Camille proudly declared. In the end, it’s all about me. Even my dad supports him! Why else do you think I’ve kicked him out so many times, but he never leaves?”
Her words were contradictory, but she believed them wholeheartedly, which was frankly ridiculous.
“But he left anyway, didn’t he?” Desmond seemed to catch on and quickly asked.
“Yes, he left on purpose. But it was just to prove something to me,” Camille exclaimed. “He wanted to get my attention. Otherwise, how could he keep showing up in front of me over and over?”
“I think it was definitely my dad’s idea,” Camille said, her grin sly. He’s always been telling me behind my back to let him come back, bragging about how great he is. But honestly, it’s all just a show between him and my dad.”
She looked at me, her smile mocking. “My dad’s completely lost faith in him. He’s nothing but
a loser who’s unfit for me.”
Then, her tone softened as she looked at Desmond affectionately. “Besides, Mr. Zenn, you’re the pride of the Heavens. Which woman wouldn’t like you? From the moment I laid eyes on you, I fell for you. Otherwise, how else could we have ended up in bed the first time we met?”
I had to admit that she was beautiful, and her charm made Desmond smile, despite himself.

She turned her scornful gaze back to me and sneered, “I wouldn’t even glance at trash like him!”
Desmond chimed in, “Ms. Layton, you’re absolutely stunning. Any man would be tempted. You have to cut him some slack. For a nobody from some backwater town, being your lapdog for three years is already the greatest honor of his life.”
The two of them went back and forth like a well–rehearsed comedy duo.
