Chapter 99
“What the hell did you just say? You bastard, how dare you slander me!” Camille exploded, shooting to her feet and jabbing a finger in my face.
Desmond’s expression darkened as he coldly said, “Max, say that again.”
I looked at Desmond with mild amusement and replied, “Mr. Zenn, the real reason you chose Camille is because of the Layton family, isn’t it? Their company is worth billions. To someone like you, trying to climb your way to the top of the Zenn family and secure your inheritance, marrying into the Laytons is just another power move.”
The moment I exposed the truth, Desmond’s expression shifted. He tried to play it off with a smile. “So what? Ms. Layton’s personality, background, beauty, and poise all meet my standards. Even if the Laytons are useful to me, I’m choosing her for who she is.”
It was blatant hypocrisy, but given the pursuit of family wealth, it was not entirely incomprehensible.
“You lowlife wouldn’t understand how we live,” Camille sneered. “Marriage alliances like ours are only for the elite. Trash like you wouldn’t get it!”
She actually thought this was something to be proud of. How pathetic.
“You’re even dumber than I thought,” I said. “Your father’s pushing this marriage because you’re a complete failure. He’s hoping the Zenn family can clean up your mess and keep the Laytons afloat. Stop trying to dress it up as something noble. Isn’t that disgusting?”
I tore off that last layer of shame.
Camille’s chest heaved with anger as she pointed at me and shouted, “You bastard! Who the hell are you calling a failure? I swear, I’ll kill you!”
I smiled lightly, unfazed, and continued, “Don’t be so worked up, Ms. Layton. I get it. It’s not easy finding someone as clueless as Mr. Zenn here. Your family really hit the jackpot.”
We were already at war, so I wasn’t holding back. I could be even more vile.
“Who the hell are you calling clueless?” Desmond snapped angrily.

I shrugged casually and said, “Mr. Zenn, if you weren’t clueless, why would you nose such a worthless mess? Everyone in Brinestone knows about her. Only you treat her like a treasure.
Desmond’s face flushed red with anger, and Camille looked like she was ready to claw my eyes
out.
“Quit yelling,” I said coldly. “I’m just telling the truth. Camille, I was with you for three years. Do you really want to pretend that you don’t remember what you did? How many men have you slept with?”
