“You bastard, where the hell are you?
“Get over here. Now,”
Camille’s furious voice crackled through the phone.
I let out a breath and hung up. Without a word, I Headed straight to the hotel.
The moment I walked in, I found Camille wrapped in a bathrobe, nestled against Kieran.
He was shirtless, his hands boldly roaming over her body. The sight churned my stomach, and I quickly looked away.
Before I could say a word, Camille stormed forward and struck me hard across the face.
“You filthy wretch! How dare you threaten Kieran?
“Who gave you the right?
Kieran followed right behind her. His lips curled up in a smug grin, and contempt blazed in his
eyes.
It was clear this entire charade was his handiwork
This was all he ever knew how to d
How pathetic.
“Max, weren’t you way too damn arrogant just now? Why don’t you try barking at me one more time?”
He pulled Camille closer and gave me a taunting glare.
didn’t waste time with petty words. “If Ms. Layton really wants me to sign that contract, I
I’ll
I
have no choice but to take it to Mr. Layton.”
This was about my career. If I got sued, I wouldn’t just lose money; I could end up behind bars.
There was no way I was letting that happen.
“How dare you!!
“Listen closely, Max. If you so much as mention this to my father, you’re done.
“Consider yourself cut off from the Layton family.”
“I won’t compromise on this, Ms. Layton,” I said calmly.
“If you want to fire me, you’ll have to take it up with Mr. Layton.
“My contract is with him.”
I could let most things slide, but being made the scapegoat was something I wouldn’t tolerate.
“You.”
Camille was furious. She never expected someone as meek as me to stand up to her twice in
one day.
Her glare burned with frustration, but there was nothing she could do.
After all, she knew Benson still respected my opinion.
“Max, how dare you talk to Camille like that?
“Relax. Don’t drag yourself down to his level,” Kieran said swiftly, trying to smooth things
over.
Camille settled against his bare chest, but her icy gaze remained locked on me.
Kieran leaned in to whisper something in her ear, and she suddenly burst out laughing.
“You’re such a bad guy.”
“Well, nice guys finish last, right?”
His hand moved to her waist, giving it a firm squeeze. Camille laughed again and threw me a teasing glance.
“Well, Max, it seems like you’ve finally grown some wings.
“Do you really think I can’t take you down?
“Don’t worry, I have plenty of ways to make you regret ever crossing me.”
I didn’t flinch. In the past three years, I’d faced more pain and humiliation than most could. bear. Words like these no longer shook me.
Yet I knew what awaited me was a cruel, twisted kind of torment.
But I’d survived three years.
Two more weeks were nothing.
Let Camille try whatever she wanted.
“I’ll wait outside.”
With that, I turned and closed the door behind me.
