A cold, mocking smile flitted across Danielle's lips.
The door code had long since been changed; coming back here was just inviting humiliation.
The divorce papers weren't even signed, yet she'd already become a stranger in her own home.
"Mm." Danielle had no desire to explain herself to Julia. She was only here for one reason. "Has Alexander come back?"
"Mr. Mason isn't home yet," Julia replied. "He said he'd be working late tonight, might not make it back."
"Is my mother-in-law here?"
Just then, Raffy came bounding down the stairs.
He was genuinely happy to see Danielle. His mom hadn't been home in ages; though he'd never admit it, he'd missed her—especially the meals she used to cook. He hadn't tasted her food in far too long.
Without hesitation, Raffy rushed over and threw his arms around Danielle. "Mom, will you take me to school tomorrow? Can you make shrimp for breakfast? I miss your shrimp."
Whenever anyone else cooked shrimp, he'd break out in hives. Only his mom could make it just right—and it tasted so much better, too.
He nestled into Danielle's arms, seeking comfort the way he always had.
For a moment, Danielle felt disoriented, as if she'd slipped back to the happier days of another life. Back when Raffy and Niki were both sweet and well-behaved, before everything turned so hostile.
Some habits needed correcting, sure, but that's what parenting was for.
She'd raised this child for five years. To say she felt nothing would be a lie.
But in the end, Raffy was bound to love his birth mother most. That's only natural.
He didn't know Millie was his real mom, but even so, he'd lashed out at Danielle over and over, always on Millie's behalf.
He was slowly becoming a stranger to her.
Danielle took a deep breath and gently pushed Raffy away, her voice cool and distant. "Maybe you should ask your new mom to make it for you."
Raffy stiffened, uncertainty flickering across his face. "Mom, are you still mad at me?"
Danielle exhaled slowly, stood up, and her words came out colder than she meant. "That's right. I don't want you anymore."
Raffy's face crumpled, disbelief written all over it. He shot to his feet. "I don't believe you! You're just mad. If you keep acting like this, I won't want you as my mom, either!"
He burst into tears and bolted upstairs.
Danielle watched him go, her gaze unreadable, and said nothing.
She spent the night on the living room couch, waiting for Alexander. He never came home.
Around six in the morning, just as Danielle was about to leave, she heard the front door open.
She saw Millie supporting Alexander inside. "Honestly, I can handle my liquor. Why'd you take so many drinks for me?"
In the entryway, Millie deftly started unbuttoning his shirt and loosening his belt. "Let's get you undressed and into the shower. You reek."
But as her hand reached his belt, Alexander's hand clamped down, stopping her—

Where is Chapter 545 - 554? I thought there'll be 9-10 chapters per update....
I knew it! He’s in love with her but he thinks she loves his brother!...
Oh poor Bianca... regrets, regrets :)...
This is it! Revenge. Way to go Dani....
OMG! Chapters 451-462 had me on edge. I wish we could also read Alexander's POV. I swear I want to punch him and Millie. This story is kind of a push and pull. The main character will win some, then lose some. Hope the writer gives Danielle a big win....
I hope not a lot of important dialogues get cut out, especially between Danielle and Alexander. But I can't complain, really. Thank you again for the updates....
I'm already in chapter 432 ATM and I have the impression that the story is so slow. Daniele remains in the dark, her reputation is low and inexistent, her accomplishment and professional abilities are stiĺl hidden, her enemies are taking the joy in humiliatihg her. No evolution in the plot? Please don't stay long in this, readers might lose interest in the long run....
Please update...
The last chapter was too short. More pls. Thank you....
Lovin' this. More more pls!...
