The next day.
Danielle didn't go to Ninesky Technologies. Instead, she decided to pick out a dress for the upcoming birthday celebration.
She'd refused Alexander's offer to go dress shopping together—spending another minute with him was the last thing she wanted.
Danielle hailed a cab and arrived at the boutique. Inside, she wandered for a while, overwhelmed by the endless racks of evening gowns in every imaginable style and shade.
Finally, she settled on a pale mermaid dress. Just as she reached out for it, another hand shot in from the side. Both women gripped the same hanger at once.
Danielle looked up—straight into Millie's eyes.
Millie blinked in surprise, then feigned delight. "What a coincidence, Danielle!"
"You like this one too? I thought it was gorgeous. I really like it."
It was obvious Millie was trying to snatch it away from her.
Danielle couldn't help but marvel at Millie's shamelessness. No matter how strained things got between them, no matter how many icy encounters they'd had, Millie always greeted her as if nothing had happened, smiling as though they were the best of friends.
That level of emotional resilience was almost impressive.
Danielle shot a cool glance at Alexander.
Millie wanted to take her man, now she wanted her dress too? The man she could let go, but the dress—not a chance.
She gave a faint, dismissive smile. "Sorry, but this dress just isn't right for you."
Millie's expression faltered.
The dress was stunning, but it did require the right figure to pull it off. Her own curves weren't quite as generous as Danielle's, though she wasn't lacking elsewhere.
"Why don't you pick another one?" Danielle suggested.
Suddenly, a man's calm, authoritative voice came from behind.
Danielle felt her breath catch in her throat. The tone was so familiar—it could only be Alexander.
"Let her have it," he said, his words meant for Danielle.
With that, she swept the dress away to the fitting room, the sales assistant hurrying after her.
Danielle drew a shaky breath.
She couldn't help but think how all those years she'd loved Alexander had been completely wasted. How blind she'd been in her past life, content to play the housewife, oblivious to everything outside her bubble—until the day her own daughter paid the ultimate price.
She forced herself to swallow her emotions. Then she turned and picked another dress, preparing to try it on.
Alexander's gaze flickered to the new dress—a daring piece, low-cut and backless, designed to show off every curve.
Without warning, he stood and snatched it from her hands.
Danielle's patience snapped. "Are you insane?"
Alexander looked her dead in the eye. "You really think it's appropriate to wear something that revealing to my grandfather's birthday dinner?"
Danielle couldn't help but laugh.
To her, this dinner was nothing more than a chore she needed to check off her list. The excitement she once felt was long gone.

Where is Chapter 545 - 554? I thought there'll be 9-10 chapters per update....
I knew it! He’s in love with her but he thinks she loves his brother!...
Oh poor Bianca... regrets, regrets :)...
This is it! Revenge. Way to go Dani....
OMG! Chapters 451-462 had me on edge. I wish we could also read Alexander's POV. I swear I want to punch him and Millie. This story is kind of a push and pull. The main character will win some, then lose some. Hope the writer gives Danielle a big win....
I hope not a lot of important dialogues get cut out, especially between Danielle and Alexander. But I can't complain, really. Thank you again for the updates....
I'm already in chapter 432 ATM and I have the impression that the story is so slow. Daniele remains in the dark, her reputation is low and inexistent, her accomplishment and professional abilities are stiĺl hidden, her enemies are taking the joy in humiliatihg her. No evolution in the plot? Please don't stay long in this, readers might lose interest in the long run....
Please update...
The last chapter was too short. More pls. Thank you....
Lovin' this. More more pls!...
