The Wife You Buried Is Back from Hell novel Chapter 549

His gaze was dark and impenetrable as he watched her.

From his tone, Danielle sensed that Alexander had no real intention of dealing with the matter at hand.

She lifted her eyes slowly, fixing him with a cold, sharp look.

“You really don’t seem to care, do you?”

With those words, Danielle turned on her heel and walked away.

As far as she was concerned, Alexander was already part of her past.

What happened to Millie wasn’t just about her; it was a matter of national interest.

Alexander stood there, watching Danielle’s slender figure disappear down the corridor. Only when she was gone from sight did he finally tear his gaze away.

He turned and strode into the hospital.

Jason Gable looked up as Alexander approached. “You actually found the time to come by today.”

Alexander barely glanced at him as he walked toward the office. “Let’s have some Earl Grey today.”

Jason didn’t argue, simply fell into step beside him.

After leaving the hospital, Danielle headed to a nearby coffee shop.

She had arranged to meet her attorney there.

She still had no idea who’d slipped something into her drink that night.

The prime suspect was Harold.

Attorney Stewart greeted her as she arrived. “You’ve been keeping me busier than ever. I feel like your cases are taking over my whole week.”

He grinned, half-joking, “You know, you’re practically our firm’s VIP client now.”

Danielle smiled faintly and took a seat, launching into the details with him.

They talked until everything was covered.

Conrad excused himself first, leaving Danielle alone.

As she reached the coffee shop’s entrance, she noticed the sky had turned an ominous gray. Heavy clouds were pressing down over the city, threatening a torrential downpour.

It had been weeks since Northridge City last saw rain.

Danielle checked her watch—just past five in the afternoon.

Lowering her gaze, she pulled out her phone to order a rideshare.

But the moment she bent her head, a sudden chill raced down her spine.

Her body went rigid. Instinctively, she glanced back.

A flash of silver—a knife—came hurtling straight at her.

Before she could react, a strong hand seized her wrist and yanked her into a protective embrace.

She barely had time to register the man shielding her before she felt the knife drive hard into his back.

Danielle’s head snapped up, panic flooding her eyes. “Nathan—!”

Nathan looked down at her, his lips managing a faint smile. “I’m fine.”

His voice was weak, but steady.

Danielle glanced at the attacker, who was already bolting down the street.
