The Wife You Buried Is Back from Hell novel Chapter 534

Beatty and Danielle were paired together, both so excited they could hardly keep from jumping up and down.

This round of the competition wasn’t just about selecting the most professional team—it would also crown the most outstanding individual.

Once the teams were settled, work began.

The next twenty-seven hours were golden, a frantic race against the clock where every second counted.

There were brief breaks in between, but Danielle barely took any. Other than grabbing a bite to eat and catching a few hours’ sleep, she poured herself entirely into the project.

Around midday, Millie spotted Danielle sitting alone in the competition’s cafeteria.

Carrying her tray, Millie made her way over and slid into the seat across from Danielle.

Danielle glanced up, just for a moment.

“We’re not really enemies, you know. In the end, we’re both working for Aurelia. We could help each other out,” Millie said, studying her carefully. “Together, we could win this. It’s a sure thing.”

She was all business, clearly looking to strike some kind of deal.

Danielle listened without looking up, her voice cool as she continued eating. “I don’t collaborate with plagiarists. It’s bad for my reputation.”

“You—” Millie’s face darkened. “My lawsuit for defamation against you isn’t even over, and now you’re saying this again? It’ll just be more evidence for my case.”

Danielle remained unfazed, nodding slightly.

She offered Millie a calm, almost mocking smile. “Then by all means, have me arrested.”

Millie felt as if she’d just punched a pillow—frustrated and powerless.

Just then, Alexander walked in.

Millie’s eyes lit up when she saw him. “Alex!”

He gave a noncommittal “Mm,” and sat down.

Danielle knew Alexander was here for Millie. Feeling her mood sour, she picked up her tray and stood to leave.

Alexander glanced up, watching her walk away.

Millie resumed eating. “She’s at the top now, so arrogant she won’t even look at me properly. I can barely get two words out before she acts like I’m beneath her.”

Alexander withdrew his gaze, a flicker of amusement in his eyes. “Is that so?”

His tone was lazy, almost teasing.

Millie frowned a little.

“This is exactly my field,” she went on. “I’ve done plenty of research before. Even if they’d shuffled the teams, I’d still come out on top.”

She was confident, and for good reason—she’d studied this field abroad, and her skills were ahead of most.

Alexander leaned back in his chair, casting an idle glance her way. “Confidence is good.”

“Have you finalized your initial proposal?”

Millie nodded. “It’s just the details now. There are some data points I wanted to run by you, if you don’t mind?”

Alexander’s expression was cool. He crossed one leg over the other and smiled faintly. “I haven’t worked in the field for years. I’m a little rusty.”

The message was clear: he wasn’t offering help.

Millie’s grip tightened on her fork.

Alexander had been a legend back in the day. If he’d stayed in the field, his achievements would rival Danielle’s now.
