The Wife You Buried Is Back from Hell novel Chapter 29

A prickling sense of unease crept up in Millie's chest.

She remembered the "Northern Eye Team" as nothing more than a ragtag bunch of college students who hadn't even graduated yet. She'd barely paid them any attention—after all, how could a team like that possibly have any real heavyweights?

"Nervous?" Alexander glanced at her, eyebrow arched.

Millie forced a carefree smile. "Why would I be? If anyone should be nervous in this competition, it's my opponents."

Sure, maybe the Northern Eye Team had some hidden talent, but in the end, they were still green and untested. Thinking that, Millie finally allowed herself to relax—just a little.

The 24-hour extreme challenge was grueling. There were supposed to be breaks, but no one wanted to waste precious minutes. Everyone just took turns stealing a quick nap here and there—never enough to truly rest.

When it was finally over, Danielle let out a huge sigh of relief, slumping back in her chair and rubbing her eyes, exhaustion etched into every line of her face.

The judging panel was made up of top aerospace experts from various departments, and the results would be decided by a strict scoring system.

As they waited for the final announcement, tension crackled through the room. It was almost unbearable, right up until the announcer strode onto the stage, envelope in hand. After the customary build-up, he finally revealed the results:

"I am pleased to announce—the ISSDS Regional Champion is: the Northern Eye Team!"

Thunderous applause erupted from the audience.

Millie's face drained of color.

How could this be?

On stage, the host went on, "And the award for Outstanding Individual goes to… Sophia!"

"Sophia?!" The crowd buzzed. "No wonder her answers were so impressive—her creativity and technical skills are way beyond this level. She should be working at the National Research Institute…"

"Didn't she compete years ago? I thought the government scooped her up. Now she's making a comeback?"

Once hailed as a prodigy in the aerospace world, Sophia had vanished from the public eye. Rumors swirled—some said she'd simply run out of steam and faded away, others believed she'd joined a secretive elite organization and gone underground.

Ever since the results were announced, Millie's mood had soured. She'd heard stories about Sophia—supposedly a genius born for Aurelia's aerospace program—but she'd always assumed it was just hype.

Now, she was curious to see what this woman was really made of.

"All right, Davidson, you'd better do whatever it takes to recruit her. I want to see what she can do when she's on my team."

"Mr. Chapman from Vanguard Technologies is here today," Liam said suddenly. "If Blackwood Research Institute doesn't work out, Vanguard isn't a bad backup."

Millie's lips curled in a sly smile. "Sounds good."

With her reputation now, she had every right to meet the head of a leading firm.

Who knows? Maybe Mr. Chapman was just waiting for a chance to poach her.

In the end, Millie's team placed second—a distant second at that.
