The words of the crowd rang in her ears, sounding especially cutting.
No one could deny that Millie’s academic background and abilities were exceptional.
Still, no matter how capable she was, what mattered was whether she genuinely wanted to work here, not just strut around with a chip on her shoulder, all pride and no substance.
Danielle wasn’t so petty as to make things difficult for Millie over a personal grudge.
“Fine.” Danielle flicked her pen onto the table, leaning back in her chair, gaze cool and unruffled as she looked at everyone in the room. “Anyone who doesn’t want to listen is free to step outside with Miss Fletcher.”
The pen hit the table with a soft clack—just loud enough to punctuate the silence, but not so loud as to seem theatrical. Still, it landed with an unexpected weight among the group.
The unspoken authority of a leader quietly filled the conference room.
Instantly, the room fell deathly silent—nobody was about to risk their own job for the sake of the new hire.
Everyone knew exactly how competent Danielle was.
Some might have wanted to stand up for Millie, but, at the end of the day, most people looked out for themselves.
After a few seconds, Millie let out a cold, derisive laugh.
She sneered, “Alright.”
Gathering up her notebook, she stood and met Danielle’s gaze. “I hope you can hold onto that seat, seeing as you never should have had it in the first place.”
With that, she turned and strode out of the room.
Millie had honestly never imagined Danielle wielded real influence at Ninesky. Just a college grad, yet Gian had placed her on a pedestal.
What right did Danielle have to lead a team full of people with master’s and PhDs? The thought alone was laughable.
Millie had always been ambitious—she’d come to Ninesky aiming for a high position. Now that Danielle was standing in her way, of course she refused to accept it.
After Millie left, Danielle simply brushed off the disruption and calmly resumed the meeting.
She hadn’t expected him to be so blinded by Danielle, to still go out of his way to protect her.
“Mr. Atwood, you should think carefully before you make staffing decisions,” she said, her voice low. “I only want what’s best for Ninesky. Consider this a friendly warning.”
“Thank you.” Gian’s tone was cool. “I’ll take it under advisement. If there’s nothing else, please see yourself out.”
Millie almost laughed out loud.
He’d let Danielle run wild, handed her everything on a silver platter.
—
After the meeting, Danielle asked Millie to put together the meeting summary—a document that outlined the whole agenda and project updates.
Millie glanced at the file Danielle handed to her, flipped through a couple of pages, then gave a mocking smile.
She set the report down, meeting Danielle’s eyes. “It’s obvious you have no idea what you’re doing. And when it comes to management, you’re even more out of your depth.”

Where is Chapter 545 - 554? I thought there'll be 9-10 chapters per update....
I knew it! He’s in love with her but he thinks she loves his brother!...
Oh poor Bianca... regrets, regrets :)...
This is it! Revenge. Way to go Dani....
OMG! Chapters 451-462 had me on edge. I wish we could also read Alexander's POV. I swear I want to punch him and Millie. This story is kind of a push and pull. The main character will win some, then lose some. Hope the writer gives Danielle a big win....
I hope not a lot of important dialogues get cut out, especially between Danielle and Alexander. But I can't complain, really. Thank you again for the updates....
I'm already in chapter 432 ATM and I have the impression that the story is so slow. Daniele remains in the dark, her reputation is low and inexistent, her accomplishment and professional abilities are stiĺl hidden, her enemies are taking the joy in humiliatihg her. No evolution in the plot? Please don't stay long in this, readers might lose interest in the long run....
Please update...
The last chapter was too short. More pls. Thank you....
Lovin' this. More more pls!...
