Alexander looked up, his gaze indifferent as he spared her a brief glance. He set down his pen and leaned back in his chair. "Go ahead. Sit."
Danielle stepped inside but didn't take a seat.
All these years of marriage, it was almost always Danielle who initiated their conversations, reaching out in an attempt to bridge the distance between them. Alexander had always been reserved, but he never refused to listen—at least, he'd sit there quietly. Whether he was really listening, though, was anyone's guess.
"What is it?"
Danielle met his eyes. "My grandmother's ceramic vase—I don't want it used as a burial offering."
She wasn't sure how much Alexander knew about the long-standing feud between Leanne and Vivian. Long before her grandmother passed away, Leanne had already come between Danielle's parents. Their families had been at odds ever since, the conflict too deep to ignore.
Even if Alexander didn't know all the sordid details, he had to be aware of the general situation.
He looked at her for several silent seconds before speaking. "Your grandmother?"
Danielle's hand clenched involuntarily.
A mocking little smile flitted across her lips. So he didn't even remember her grandmother's name. She shouldn't be surprised—he barely paid attention to her, let alone her family.
Alexander lowered his eyes and clicked the cap back onto his pen. "So this matters a lot to you."
For her, it meant everything. Having her grandmother's vase buried with Millie's grandmother—it was an insult, given the tangled history between their families.
"I'll buy it back for the original price," Danielle said quietly.
It was true—the vase had been purchased fair and square. She had no grounds to demand it back; buying it was her only option, but she needed his approval.
She'd hoped to wait, to approach this delicately, but after overhearing their plans, she realized she couldn't postpone it any longer.
"If you have other conditions, just say—"

Meanwhile, Millie, who worked as a technical advisor for a Newsworld Group subsidiary, was deep in conversation with Gian, discussing some complex issues he'd brought up. By the time Danielle arrived, their conversation was winding down. Liam was there too, quietly listening from the sidelines.
When he noticed Danielle, a cold, mocking smile played at the corners of his mouth.
Millie was a consummate professional, her expertise in the field beyond question. Compared to Danielle, who had gotten her position through connections and had little true understanding of the business, they were worlds apart.
No wonder Alex looked down on Danielle.
Gian stood as Danielle approached, greeting her politely.
Manager Wright had invited them all out to eat, but Danielle and the others declined.
Liam watched Gian go out of his way to accommodate Danielle, a hint of irony in his eyes. Now that he'd gotten to know Millie and seen just how capable she was, he couldn't imagine what anyone ever saw in Danielle.

Where is Chapter 545 - 554? I thought there'll be 9-10 chapters per update....
I knew it! He’s in love with her but he thinks she loves his brother!...
Oh poor Bianca... regrets, regrets :)...
This is it! Revenge. Way to go Dani....
OMG! Chapters 451-462 had me on edge. I wish we could also read Alexander's POV. I swear I want to punch him and Millie. This story is kind of a push and pull. The main character will win some, then lose some. Hope the writer gives Danielle a big win....
I hope not a lot of important dialogues get cut out, especially between Danielle and Alexander. But I can't complain, really. Thank you again for the updates....
I'm already in chapter 432 ATM and I have the impression that the story is so slow. Daniele remains in the dark, her reputation is low and inexistent, her accomplishment and professional abilities are stiĺl hidden, her enemies are taking the joy in humiliatihg her. No evolution in the plot? Please don't stay long in this, readers might lose interest in the long run....
Please update...
The last chapter was too short. More pls. Thank you....
Lovin' this. More more pls!...
