The Wife You Buried Is Back from Hell novel Chapter 126

Danielle stared at her grandmother's name flashing on the screen, hesitating for a few seconds before she finally answered the call.

"Dani, have you been busy lately?"

"It's alright," Danielle replied, her voice calm.

"You used to come back to the house all the time and keep me company. Lately, you're nowhere to be found. Did you and Alex have a fight?"

Danielle wasn't sure how to respond. Her grandmother had always been determined to see her and Alexander together, but that ship had sailed long ago. There was nothing left between them.

She fell silent.

Sensing something, her grandmother's tone softened. "Why don't you have dinner with me tonight? I've booked a table."

That evening, after work, Danielle gathered her things and headed to the restaurant her grandmother had chosen.

Her grandmother was already waiting, waving Danielle over the moment she walked in. "Come, sit with me."

As soon as Danielle settled into her seat, her grandmother handed her the menu. "Take a look—order whatever you like."

Danielle accepted the menu, glancing down at the dishes, her mind elsewhere. She wore a crisp white blouse, the sleeves casually rolled up, her long hair tied back to reveal delicate features. There was a gentle, quiet grace about her, but lately even that seemed a bit diminished. Her face looked thinner than ever.

Her grandmother watched her closely, concern creasing her brow. "You've lost even more weight, haven't you?"

Danielle shrugged lightly. "It's summer. I always slim down a little."

Her grandmother shook her head, unconvinced. "You've never lost this much before. I've watched you grow up, Dani. I notice these things."

She hesitated, then leaned in. "Has Alex been giving you a hard time? Did he upset you?"

Danielle set the menu down and shook her head. "No."

Danielle drew a slow breath. He probably thought she was playing hard to get.

Alexander picked up the tablet and scanned the menu. Seeing the dishes already chosen, he turned to Danielle. "Didn't you always love shrimp risotto? Why didn't you order it?"

He was putting on a convincing show of being a thoughtful husband. Danielle had to admit, he'd gotten good at pretending for her grandmother's sake. He'd been doing it for years.

Too bad.

She was allergic to shrimp.

Her grandmother's expression changed in an instant. "Dani's allergic to shrimp, and you didn't know? After all these years together, what kind of husband are you?"

Alexander froze, glancing at Danielle. "You never told me that."

Danielle almost laughed. They'd been living under the same roof, sharing the same bed for years—though they'd hardly ever eaten together. But every single meal they'd shared, she'd never touched shrimp.
