Sophia and I had just arrived at the restaurant’s entrance when a security guard stopped us, The guard said, “I’m sorry, Mr. Wexler. You’re not allowed to enter since you don’t have an invitation.”
Smiling, I replied, “If that’s the case, could you help me inform Camille that we’re here to congratulate her?”
I was sure that Camille would be ecstatic when she heard that and would definitely usher us in.
“I’m sorry. Mr. Layton has specifically instructed us not to let you in.”
I froze momentarily. Benson? Well, wasn’t he being careful? No wonder Camille hadn’t sent me an invitation. Benson was the one who had told her not to do so!
At that moment, Quinn’s ethereal voice sounded from behind me. “What’s wrong? Can’t get
in?”
When I turned my head, I immediately spotted Quinn walking over in a stunning red dress.
“Hello, you must be Ms. Hartwell. I’m Max’s friend, Quinn Lavigne.” As Quinn spoke, she reached a hand out to Sophia.
Sophia paused momentarily, but quickly reached out to shake Quinn’s hand.
“Max keeps telling me that you’re beautiful and capable. Now that I’ve met you today, I have to agree with him. It’s no wonder he’s not interested in any other woman. If such a gorgeous woman like you were by my side, I wouldn’t look at any other woman either.”
As Quinn complimented Sophia, the latter blinked once before glancing at the two of us.
Then, she smiled and replied, “Ms. Lavigne, you must be the CEO of Solstice Global Estates. I’ve heard rumors about your exceptional talent. It seems that the rumors are true after seeing you today.”
“Ms. Hartwell, you’re too kind.”
As the two women continued to flatter each other, I couldn’t help but feel that something was
off as I listened in to their conversation.
“Oh, right. Let me take you two in with me. I heard that they’ll be quite the show tonight.‘
Then, Quinn turned to the security guard and said, “There shouldn’t be a problem if I’m the one who brings them in, right?”
The security guard looked a bit troubled, and he said, “Ms. Lavigne…”
“Why? Are you planning to stop me? Do I need to call Mr. Layton and talk to him myself for you to let us in?” Quinn asked.
Chapter 78
The second Quinn’s expression turned cold, the security guard did not dare to say another word. So, he reluctantly allowed us to enter.
Once we entered the venue, Quinn found an excuse to leave. “I still have some things to take care of, so excuse me for a bit.”
The second Quinn left, Sophia immediately turned to look at me with an inquisitive gaze. What’s your relationship with her?”
“What? Oh, she’s my friend.” I blinked, feeling a little guilty. I got even more nervous when I remembered how Quinn had half–joked about sleeping with me once.
“Really?” Sophia inched closer toward me, the scent of her perfume circling around me.
“It’s true! We’re really just friends!” I exclaimed hurriedly.
Sophia looked at me quietly for a moment before finally letting the question go. Then, she added, “You need to be careful of pretty women like her, do you understand? You need to be careful or they’ll devour you down to the bone!”
“What about you then? You’re beautiful too. So, should I be careful of you, too? Will you devour me down to the bone as well?” I joked and smiled.
“I… How can you compare me with those women? I’m not going to devour you or anything!” Sophia scoffed as her cheeks turned red. She was clearly embarrassed by my words as she shot me a glare.
At that moment, I spotted Camille and Desmond.
