“Yeah. I saw Max at one of Camille’s dinner parties, someone chimed in

Hunter’s eyes immediately lit up as he leaned in closer, “Go on. Tell us what happened,” he pressed.

The man laughed. “I remember Camille got wasted and threw up all over his shoes. She then ordered him to clean them with his shirt, and he actually did it.”

“Ha! Really? Sounds like a perfectly obedient lapdog”

Sophia’s face darkened.

Hunter glanced at me smugly. His expression was full of contempt. “Sophia, why would you partner with the Layton family’s lapdog? This kind of guy doesn’t deserve it,” he said.

Sophia’s face went cold as she snapped, “Don’t you dare talk about him like that!”

Seeing her angry face, he said helplessly, “This guy’s just a pretty boy gold–digger. “

“That’s enough. Shut your damn mouth! My business partnerships are none of your concern!” Sophia’s sharp response only deepened Hunter’s resentment toward me.

He said earnestly, “Don’t get upset. I’m just looking out for you here.”

She sneered coldly. “So, looking out for me gives you the right to insult Max?”

Hunter quickly explained, “You’ve misunderstood me. I’m not trying to insult him. I’m just worried you’re being taken advantage of by this guy. Look, our families go back a long way. Shouldn’t I give you a heads–up?”

Someone else chimed in to support him. “He’s right. This guy was all over Camille when she had money, and now he’s moved on to you. Don’t let him fool you.”

Seeing how convinced Hunter sounded, I just smiled and stayed quiet.

When he saw that Sophia was getting angry, he stopped trying to persuade her. Instead, his expression darkened as he glared and pointed a finger at me accusingly.

“Listen up, brat. Don’t think I don’t know what you’re about. Quit sucking up! If you dare mess with Sophia, I swear I’ll break your legs. Now get the hell out of here.”

I looked at him calmly and said evenly, “Who she partners with is her call. You don’t get a vote.

My words made Hunter even angrier.

He pointed at me and sneered. “Sure. We don’t get a vote. But so what? I just don’t want Camille’s lapdog hanging around Sophia. What makes you think you matter?”

I sneered at him. “And what if I refuse?”

Hunter clearly hadn’t expected me to disrespect him like that. His face instantly darkened as he pointed at me and growled, “Do you fucking know who I am? Do you think I won’t kill you?

I nodded. “I know who you are. You’re the Levine family’s heir.”

He sneered and nodded, his expression haughty “Oh, so you do know. Then, why aren’t you scared of me? You should ask around about my reputation in Brinestone. Cross me, and you’ll wish you

hadn’t.”

Seeing Hunter’s arrogant attitude, I looked at him calmly and remarked, “Okay. So what exactly do you want today?”

He stared at me with vicious eyes and threatened, “I’m giving you two choices. Walk away from Sophia right now. Otherwise, you won’t be walking out of this room today.”
