Still Your Dog? No, I'm Gone novel Chapter 49

Chapter 49

On the other side of the phone, Camille’s tone was laced with displeasure. It sounded mocking and cold as she spoke.

“I knew you’d say that. Here’s the thing, Max. The contracts with problems were all signed by you. With that in mind, I believe it’s obvious you have to take complete responsibility.

It has never occurred to me that Camille would still harass me with such tactics.

I responded icily, I was an employee of Layton Group back then, it was my job to sign those documents. Now, I have resigned from the company and carried out all handover processes. Someone from Layton Group is gonna have to handle the followup.

Yet, no amount of explanation I did was enough to make Camille see my point. She retorted in a huff, I don’t care about that! You’re the one who signed the papers. So, you have a duty to take responsibility for them!

Feeling at a loss for words, I could no longer bear listening to her nonsense. I pulled the phone away from my ear and hung up.

But Camille just wouldn’t let go and kept ringing me. I straight up blocked her, not wishing to be bound by her anymore. But she was relentless, calling me with someone else’s phone and threatening me in every possible way.

Max, you only have half an hour. Get to Layton Group right now. Otherwise, I’ll call my dad and tell on you!

I sneered. Assuming you actually call Benson, what do you think you’re gonna achieve? He would never find any fault with the way I handled this matter.

I had contingency plans for Camille’s ridiculousness. That was why I organized all the work that I handled and put it in a folder on my computer. Even if Benson personally intervened, he would never harp on me just because I signed the contracts.

You’re not afraid, huh? Fine!Camille sneered. Just wait and see. If I ordered you to come back and be my lapdog again, it’s going to happen!

Before I could say anything, she had already hung up the phone. I tucked my phone away, turned around, and was about to walk into the warehouse.

Then, my phone rang again. This time, it was Benson. I wasn’t exactly surprised. After all, he had always wanted me to keep working at Layton Group.

On one hand, he found that I was very good at running a company and wanted me to keep working like a horse for Layton Group. On the other hand, he also wanted me to marry Camille, so I could whip her into shape on his behalf.

Chapter 49

I was very grateful to Benson for saving Tory, but I had toiled away for Layton Group for three long years. For that, I had nothing to feel guilty about, even if I had to face him.

I looked at my ringing phone and answered it.

Mr. Layton,I said politely.

Benson chuckled and said over the phone, Max, Swing by my company when you have the time. I have something to talk to you about.

I fell silent for a brief moment before I said, Okay. I’m coming over right now.
