Still Your Dog? No, I'm Gone novel Chapter 31

Chapter 31

The person crouched gently and started helping me pick up my scattered things, one after

another.

Of all people, it had to be Sophia who saw me at my worst. I immediately blushed, and I felt so ashamed that I wished I could be on the other side of the planet right now.

I couldn’t care less if it was Camille. With her, I didn’t care about my dignity or the humiliating ways she treated me. But it hit differently, looking like this around Sophia.

The glass shards clinked noisily on the ground in the wind. I hurriedly grabbed her hand, shaking my head gently.

Stop. You’re going to cut your hands.

Sophia patted my hand gently. The gazes from the people around us didn’t bother her at all.

It’s fine. Everything becomes much easier when men and women work together. Her little joke lightened the load on my heart by a good margin.

We quickly picked everything up. Then, Sophia gave me a gentle smile. There’s a new foreign restaurant up ahead. Do you want to try out some steak?

I nodded in response. During our walk there, she didn’t say anything about what happened earlier. Instead, she distracted me by constantly telling me some fun stories.

My gaze was glued onto Sophia like she was a ray of hope shining into the impenetrable darkness that was my life.

We had just entered the restaurant when Camille’s call came in. I glanced at my phone and hung up without a second thought.

Sophia had seen how Camille had humiliated me. I was so upset that I wished I could kill Camille, let alone stand listening to her sickening voice.

My phone buzzed incessantly, not unlike a curse hanging over my head. I decided to turn my phone off, and the moment I did, peace was immediately restored

Sophia looked up, observing the troubled look on my face. But she didn’t ask me what -happened. Instead, she introduced some signature dishes, keeping my preferences in mind.

I might not have spent too much time around her, but her thoughtfulness always surprised me. The gloominess caused by Camille’s actions finally abated.

Once we were done ordering dishes, Sophia went and got us cocktails. She clinked her glass with mine. Her voice was soft and tender. Try it. It’s their specialty.

Okay.

Chapter 31

As the bittersweet liquid poured down my throat I relaxed much more under the alcohol’s effect. She was doing everything she could to lift my spirits.

At that moment, I suddenly heard a series of footsteps behind me. A man in a floral pattern shirt and long pants walked over, stopping in front of Sophia with a charming smile.

Pretty lady, you’ve caught my eye for quite some time now. Mind if I get your phone number and add you on WhatsApp?

Sophia waved, turning down the man’s advance. I’m sorry, but I’m already…”

She stopped abruptly before she went on. I can’t give it to you.

My head shot up, and I looked at her. If I had heard her right, she was about to blurt out that she had a boyfriend. The thing was, I had never confessed to her. Our relationship wasn’t official, and she couldn’t bring herself to say that I was her boyfriend.

All of a sudden, I felt like I owed her. That said, I still wasn’t her boyfriend as of now. Only when I stood at the top would I be worthy enough to confess to the lady I love.

Why can’t you give it to me? I just want to be your friend. The man shamelessly continued to pester Sophia.
