Rejected Luna Returns with Secret Twins (Lysandra) novel Chapter 108

Chapter 108

What did you just say?I spun toward Varian, eyes bleeding crimson at his audacity.

My Beta merely nodded toward a blonde woman nearby, eyeing me with obvious interest. I fixed her with an icecold stare, and she immediately turned away, finding safer prey for the night.

Another,I cut him off, motioning to the bartender who approached with the caution of prey sensing a predator.

The man glanced nervously at Varian, silently asking if serving me was wise. My hand slammed onto the counter, cracking the polished wood.

Who is your Alpha?I growled. Me or him?

YYou, Alpha, the bartender stammered, body visibly trembling.

Then make me another. Stronger than the last.

He immediately complied, sliding over a glass of amber liquid that glowed almost blue under the bar lightsa special werewolf blend humans couldn’t handle.

I shifted my stool so it faced the counter, too irritated to look at Varian any longer. Resting my head on the cool marble surface, I closed my eyes, seeking some temporary relief from the chaos in my mind.

Tristan, can you listen to me for once?Varian asked, his voice/softening slightly.

Why can’t you just leave me alone?I growled without opening my eyes. Why are you even here? To lecture me? Go back to handling pack business.

Do you have any idea what time it is? It’s nearly three in the morning. You’ve been drinking for God knows how long.

Drinking isn’t the solution,Varian sighed, turning his own glass between his fingers.

I’m already fucked up,I muttered. Leave me alone.

Those children aren’t yours,Varian continued, keeping his voice low enough that only werewolf hearing could detect it above the club’s pounding music. You should stay away from them. This is about your on and reputation, Tristan. As Alpha of Silverblood Pack, you can’t consider—*

Varian slammed his glass down on the counter, the amber liquid sloshing over the rim. His jaw tightened as he ran a hand through his hair, a gesture he only made when his normally iron control was slipping. His eyes, usually carefully respectful, now held a spark of genuine anger.

I’m tired of your mood swings,Varian said, an unusual challenge threading through his voice.

I looked up sharply, narrowing my eyes. You forget who you’re talking to?

Yes,he answered without backing down. Right now I’m looking at my friend, not my Alpha. What’s wrong with you, Tristan? How long will this go on? You’ve been divorced from Lysandra for over five years. When will you move on?

The bar’s dim lighting caught the amber in his eyesnot a challenge to my authority, but genuine concern that made me want to punch him even more.

Chapter 108

I want revenge,I said, my voice dropping to a dangerous whisper. She deceived me.

Did she?Varian raised an eyebrow. And what exactly were you doing with Selene? I told you a thousand times to stay away from that girl while you were married. I was your father’s Beta then. Still, I cared about you and your marriage. Your father always told me how worried he was about losing Lysandra as a daughterinlaw. He thought she had potential as Luna. Turns out he was right. She was an Alpha’s daughter all along.

I grabbed Varian’s collar abruptly, jerking him forward until our faces were inches apart. Are you saying she was right? Did I knock up Selene behind her back? Who gave her the right to get pregnant with another man’s children?

Varian didn’t struggle, just looked at me steadily. What’s done is done, Tristan. If you hate what she did, you need to move on by forgetting her. She can never be with you again. She has her own life now. The sooner you realize that, the better.

I can’t,I whispered, my voice almost lost in the bar noise. She’s-

She’s not your wife anymore.

I looked up at him, years of anger and pain churning in my heart. She’s my mate. I won’t let her walk away from me.

The admission hung between us, too raw and honest for either of us to acknowledge further. Varian’s expression softened almost imperceptibly.

Let me drive you home,he said finally.

***

Varian parked my car and walked me to the elevator of my building, ignoring my protests.

I don’t need an escort,I growled, my voice slightly slurred from alcohol. I’m not a fucking child.

He nodded, but the concern didn’t leave his eyes. See you tomorrow, Alpha.

Walking into the penthouse, I was immediately hit by memories. Once, Lysandra would have been here when I stumbled home drunk, silently loosening my tie, removing my shoes, handing me water. She would have endured my coldness even when I never thanked her for her care.

Now only empty rooms greeted me, no chestnut hair, no emerald eyes, no soft sighs.

I collapsed onto my bed, letting darkness swallow me.

In my dreams, I found myself standing in a moonlit forest. Not far away, two small figures playeda boy and a girl. I immediately recognized Lyra, and beside her had to be her brother, Orion.
