Rejected Luna Returns with Secret Twins (Lysandra) novel Chapter 109

Chapter 109

Lysandra’s POV

My phone dropped to the floor with a clatter as my legs nearly gave out beneath me. I grabbed the wall, bracing myself against the sudden weakness that rushed through my body.

He tested the DNA?I whispered to the empty room, disbelief constricting my throat.

This couldn’t be happening. If Tristan had actually done a DNA test, there was no way the results could be negative. The twins were hisa biological fact that couldn’t be changed by any test.

He must be lying,I muttered, my fingers digging into the wall as if it could anchor me to sanity. He must know the truth already. What am I going to do now?

Confusion clouded my thoughts, making it hard to breathe. I’d been so certain he believed my lie about a onenight stand. Why would he even bother with a DNA test unless he already suspected? Had the Moon Shadow Messenger’s spell failed?

Could he sense his own bloodline now?

Panic wrapped around my chest like a vice. I needed to find out what happened in that hotel room.

I forced myself upright, smoothing my hair with trembling fingers before heading toward the twins bedroom. The sound of their laughter floated down the hallway, momentarily soothing my frantic thoughts.

Orion and Lyra sat on the plush carpeted floor, building an elaborate castle from wooden blocks. My daughter placed a triangular piece atop a tower with dramatic flair, causing Orion to roll his eyes in a gesture so reminiscent of his father it made my heart clench.

Orion,I called softly, could you go play with Grandma for a bit? I need to talk with your sister.

His head jerked up, those steelblue eyesTristan’s eyesnarrowing with immediate suspicion. Mom, I want to listen too.He abandoned the blocks and rushed to my side, small fingers wrapping around mine, concern shadowing his face.

I crouched down, running my hand through his dark hair. My little moonbeam, please

as Mommy asks.

Something in my expression must have conveyed the seriousness of the situation. He hesitated, then nodded reluctantly,

casting one protective glance at his sister before slipping from the room.

Lyra climbed down from the bed, abandoning her half of the castle to run to me. Mommy, she said, arms outstretched.

I closed the door and lifted her up, holding her small body close to mine. Her weight, her scent, her warmtheverything

about her was precious beyond words.

Baby, I want to talk about that day,I said, carrying her to the edge of the bed. Can you tell Mommy how that man took

you away?

Lyra shook her head, chestnut curls bouncing. No, Mommy. I told you before, he didn’t kidnap me. He saved me.Her green eyes shone with sincerity that caught me off guard.

What?

Mommy, I was in the middle of the road, and he came to save me. My Wolf King Hero! Her voice filled with childish

excitement, clearly having no idea of the danger she’d been in.

I tightened my grip on her, horror washing over me as I realized my child had been running in traffic. Oh, God, Lyra

Mommy, he’s not a bad wolf, she continued, patting my cheek with her small hand. We had ice cream together. He spoke so nicely to me.

Her friendly tone about the Alpha cut through me. She had no idea she was talking about her father.

Lyra, did he pull your hair?I asked, trying to understand how he’d obtained a sample.

She frowned, confusion crinkling her no

What? No, Mommy.

He had your hair,I explained carefully. Did you happen to give him some of your hair?

She thought for a moment, face scrunched in concentration. That day, he let me brush my hair because it looked messy.

He said Alpha’s guests should look pretty. I used a brush in the bedroom. I think I left some hair there.

I couldn’t believe itan Alpha being that calculating. He’d set up the entire scenario, letting a fiveyearold child lead herself into his trap.

Go play now, sweetheart,I said, setting her down. I’ll send Orion back to you.

Lyra bounced back to her bed, seemingly unaffected by the conversation. I envied her innocence, her ability to see only the good in people. Even in Tristan.

My thoughts scattered in a hundred different directions as I waited for Alaric to return to Moonshade territory. Every minute dragged like an hour, my anxiety building until it felt like a living thing inside my chest.

I paced the halls, unable to settle, checking my phone obsessively though I knew Tristan wouldn’t call again. Not after dropping a bombshell like that. He was probably drinking himself into oblivion, celebrating his supposed moral victory over his cheatingexwife.

When I finally spotted Alaric’s car pulling up to the main house, I rushed out to meet him. Kieran was with him, the two deep in conversation that stopped abruptly when they saw my face.

I need to talk to you,I said, my voice steadier than I expected. Privately.

Alaric glanced at Kieran. Whatever you need to say, you can say it in front of him. He’s my Beta.

I took a deep breath. Ric, he tested the DNA.

Alaric’s eyebrows shot up. What? DNA? How?
