Alicia didn’t know much about the Edwards family firsthand, but she’d certainly heard of them. Their fortune was built on overseas trade; generations ago, their ancestors had established sprawling harbor operations in Seaview City and Harboridge City—prime coastal real estate handed down through the family.
Over time, the Edwards family came to own and operate not only their own private ports, but had also developed sophisticated shipping routes in countless countries abroad. Thirty years ago, more than half the nation’s international trade relied on their ports. The Edwards family grew rich as they took their cut from every deal, their dominance virtually unchallenged.
That all changed when Reginald constructed the largest port on the western outskirts of Harboridge City. Around the same time, after Tyrone joined Lynch Corporation, he established new trade routes out of Eastvale. Only then did the Edwards family’s monopoly on exports finally break.
If you traced the bad blood back, the Edwards family certainly had reasons to resent both the White family and the Lynches. But in recent years, they’d kept a low profile, rarely crossing paths with either family.
“The Edwards family is complicated. If we want to investigate, it won’t be easy,” Tyrone said, holding Alicia close to soothe her. “Don’t worry. I’ll get to the bottom of it as soon as I can.”
“Natalia definitely knows who’s pulling the strings,” Alicia whispered.
She’d tolerated Natalia’s presence, wanting to see what her real backers were after.
“Natalia’s just a pawn. She’s not important enough to know who’s really behind all this,” Tyrone replied, absently running his fingers through her hair. “The only one she’s closely connected with is Jade White. Not much value in watching her, but still—keep your guard up.”
Alicia paused in surprise. So Natalia was just a small-time player—meaning the mastermind behind her was probably Brandon.
She frowned, her mind made up. If Natalia served no real purpose, there was no need to indulge her any longer. It was time to find a way to deal with her.
Alicia gave a cold little laugh and nestled deeper into Tyrone’s arms. “Natalia acts like she owns this place—like she’s got some grave illness and can just make herself at home. And now she’s scheming for your inheritance… Sometimes I just want to wring her neck.”
Tyrone chuckled. “Since when did my Alicia get so fierce?”
