“You’re just an orphan, aren’t you? I doubt you’ll fight Easton Lynch for the inheritance. You need to understand—if Tyrone’s gone and you graciously hand over everything that rightfully belongs to Easton, then maybe you’ll earn his protection. Otherwise, don’t be surprised if you end up with plenty of cash but not much time to spend it…” Natalia’s tone dripped with menace as she leaned in, deliberately threatening Alicia Shelton.
Her implication couldn’t have been clearer. It was as if she’d already decided Tyrone Lynch was doomed.
Alicia’s eyelid twitched. She hated it when people made ominous predictions about Tyrone. She’d had enough. Grabbing the kitchen knife, she slammed it down onto the cutting board.
Natalia jumped, startled by the sudden noise. She stared at Alicia. “What are you doing?”
Alicia pointed the knife at Natalia. “If you keep running your mouth and jinxing people, I swear you’ll be the first one this knife finds.”
Natalia froze, clearly not expecting Alicia to snap like that. She swallowed hard and finally shut up.
Natalia’s words had already ruined Alicia’s mood. She finished making dinner in silence, setting the dishes on the table while her thoughts kept drifting.
Easton arrived a little earlier than Tyrone. Unlike Natalia, Easton actually had some manners—he brought a gift and even asked Alicia for a pair of disposable slippers to change into.
“Why aren’t you changing your shoes?” Easton glanced at Natalia’s feet.
“Maybe she was never taught any better,” Alicia replied with a saccharine smile that didn’t reach her eyes.
Natalia’s face flushed with embarrassment. “This house belongs to Tyrone, and maybe one day it’ll be Easton’s. What’s the point in fussing over details?”
Alicia’s patience snapped. “Are you deaf, or just slow? I told you already—this house is mine. The deed has my name on it. Got it?” Her voice was low and unmistakably firm.
Natalia bristled, ready to argue, but Easton quickly stepped in to ease the tension. “Hey, Alicia! I brought you a watermelon—super sweet. It’s in the fridge, you should try it chilled.”
