Rejected Luna Returns with Secret Twins (Lysandra) novel Chapter 47

Chapter 47

Our cat remained parked outside the hospital, the engine idling as my driver awaited instructions.

Miss Ravencron? His voice pulled ine from my thoughts. Should we begin the journey back to Moonshade Pack?

I pressed my lips together, indecision warring inside me. Fenris needed my help. The Lunaris Essence treatment required careful administration car coveral days, and I was one of the few who understood its complexities. Tristan didn’t know it, but my medical research at Moonshade over the past five years bad focused specifically on this procedure.

Change of plans,I said finally. I’m not returning to Moonshade tonight.

The driver’s eyes widened in the rearview mirror. But Alpha Alaric was very clear that-

I understand what my brother said, I cut him off, more sharply than intended. But I’ve decided to stay for a week.

A week? His knuckles whitened around the steering wheel. Alpha Alaric will kill me.

Tll speak with him. Don’t worry.

But Miss, he instructed-

I know what he instructed.I leaned forward, catching his gaze in the mirror. Take me to a hotel instead. Something nearby but discreet.

He hesitated, clearly torn between following Alaric’s orders and obeying my direct request.

This isn’t your decision to make,I reminded him gently. It’s mine.

A sigh escaped him as he nodded reluctantly.

As buildings passed by my window, guilt gnawed at me. I wouldn’t be home to tuck Orion and Lyra into bed tonight.

What kind of mother was I? Choosing to stay in Silverblood territory, under Tristan’s power, when my children needed me?

A healer, Astrid whispered. A healer who can’t turn away from someone suffering.

She was right, though I hated to admit it. Fenris had been kind to me when I needed kindness most. I couldn’t deny him now.

The car crawled through evening traffic as I pressed my phone to my ear, bracing for the conversation ahead. I’d decided to call my father first, hoping he might run interference with Alaric.

Lysandra? His deep voice filled the line. Are you on your way home? The twins keep asking.

I closed my eyes, pain lancing through my chest. Dad, I need to tell you something.

What’s wrong?Alarm sharpened his tone.

I’m not coming home tonight. I paused, gathering courage. Actually, I’m staying in Silverblood a little bit longer.

Silence stretched between us, so absolute I could hear his measured breathing.

Stay one night if you must,he finally said. “Come home tomorrow.

I can’t, Dad. I need to stay the full week.

What? Why? Because of him?The question came like a slap. Has seeing Tristan again clouded your judgment?

God, no!I nearly shouted. It has nothing to do with Tristan. I can barely stand looking at his face. It’s his father. He needs the Lunaris Essence treatment, and I think I can help him.

And you feel responsible for helping him?

I gazed out the window, watching streetlights flicker on as dusk deepened. Tenris Alpha respected me even when i was nothing in athlon Pack deserves my help now.

Dad sighed heavily. Lysandra, you don’t owe his family anything. Not after what his son did to you.

This isn’t about Tristan,I insisted. It’s about doing what’s right. As a healer.

A long pause followed, and I could almost see him pinching the bridge of his nosea gesture he made when frustrated but unable to ang

What about the twins?he asked finally.

My throat tightened. Can you help explain to them? Tell them I’m helping an important friend who’s very sick, and I’ll be back soon. My voice cracked on the last word. Tell them I love them more than anything.

Lyss, you always put others before yourself. It’s both your greatest strength and your most dangerous weakness.

Tears pricked my eyes at the gentle reproach in his voice. Dad, please try to understand.

Another sigh. You’re a grown woman. You have every right to do what you think best.He paused. But the twins stay with us. They don’t come anywhere near Silverblood territory. Is that clear?

Absolutely clear, I agreed immediately. I’d never risk bringing them here.

After saying goodbye, I slumped against the seat, emotionally drained. One call down, one to goand Alaric would be far less understanding than our father.

As the car pulled into the circular drive of the hotel, I steeled myself for what awaited.

The moment I stepped out, I felt iteyes watching from every direction, werewolf senses attuned to the newcomer in their territory. A pair of young women passed, their conversation dropping to hushed whispers as they registered my scent.

Isn’t that the former Luna?one murmured, staring openly.

Can’t be,her companion replied. She left five years ago
