Rejected Luna Returns with Secret Twins (Lysandra) novel Chapter 46

Chapter 46

Lysandra’s POV

I rushed out of the cafeteria, heart thundering against my ribs, cheeks burning with a mixture of fury and something I refused to name. The second the corner, my legs nearly gave out. I leaned against the wall, pressing my palm flat against the cool surface to steady myself.

Fuck, 1 muttered, closing my eyes as a shudder rippled through me.

Tristan’s presence had shot through my system like a drug, awakening nerve endings I’d spent years trying to numb. My body’s betrayal was complete -skin flushed, pulse racing, breath catching in my throat at the mere sound of his voice.

My phone buzzed in my pocket, breaking through the haze of confused emotions. I fumbled it out, fumbling with trembling fingers. Kieran’s same bed on the screen, along with notification icons for a dozen missed calls.

Hello?I tried to sound normal, but my voice came out raspy.

Lysandra?” Kieran’s concern vibrated through the line. Thank the Moon Goddess you finally answered. Are you okay? We’ve been calling nonstop.”

I moved through the corridor toward the main lobby, putting as much distance between myself and the cafeteria as possible. Sorry, I wasoccupied.

Has that Alpha done something? His voice hardened, protective anger rising to the surface. Did he threaten you? Just say the word and Alaric and I-

of the

No, nothing like that.I collapsed onto a plush sofa in the quietest corner of the lobby, rubbing my temples. I just forgot to turn off silent mode after meeting with Fenris. The lie slipped out easily.

Well, keep it off. Your brother nearly shifted and raced over there himself.

I grimaced, imagining Alaric’s reaction. I’m fine, really.

You don’t sound fine, little purple wolf. His voice softened, using the nickname that had become our private joke after my wolf Astrid first emerged.

Despite everything, a small smile tugged at my lips. Don’t you start with that.”

There she is,he teased gently. How are Fenris and Isolde?

I looked up, scanning the lobby absently, and froze. Across the open space, Tristan stood with Varian, heads bent in conversation. But his eyesthose piercing steelblue eyeswere fixed directly on me.

Shit!I hissed under my breath. Is he a stalker now?

Who?Kieran’s voice sharpened instantly. Someone’s following you?

I turned away from Tristan’s stare, curling my body toward the wall. Just some random wolf, doesn’t matter.

Do you need Alaric and me to come teach him some manners? We could be there in-

No need,I cut him off. My purple wolf can handle giving him a lesson if necessary.

Kieran chuckled. Remember that Delta who wouldn’t stop following you around last winter? What was his name?

David,I supplied, grateful for the distraction. And he didn’t even bother me that much, but you two overprotective wolves near

He touched your shoulder without permission, Kieran protested, indignation creeping into his tone.

I rolled my eyes. He was helping me with my coat.

his arm off.

We both laughed, the familiar banter easing some of the tension coursing through my body. Five years of friendship had created hundreds of shared memories. Kieran had seamlessly integrated himself into my new life, becoming the steady presence I’d desperately needed.

Should I call Alaric back? I asked, wincing at the thought of my brother’s lecture. He’s probably furious.

Don’t worry about it. I’ll tell him you’re heading out of Silverblood tonight.

I exhaled slowly. Thank you, Kier. For always being there when I need you.

Always,he replied simply.

We fell silent for a moment before I asked, How are my little moonbeams doing?

They’re playing with Caspian and Aurelia right now,Kieran said. Having the time of their lives with their grandparents, but they keep asking when you’ll be back.

My chest tightened with longing. I miss them already.

They miss you too. Orion tried stealing my phone twice to call you, and Lyra’s been drawing pictures of your return.

My heart squeezed at the image. “Tell them I’ll be home soon. I should go nowneed to check on Fenris before leaving.

After saying goodbye, I tucked my phone away and stood, noticing Tristan had vanished from his previous spot. My shoulders relaxed slightly, tension draining now that his overwhelming presence was gone.

The elevator doors slid open on the top floor, and I stepped out, nodding to the guards who recognized me from earlier.

When I entered Fenris’s room, a nurse was adjusting his IV drip. Isolde sat beside the bed, her slender fingers laced through her husband’s.

Rylan was here a few minutes ago to explain the treatment plan,Isolde said as I approached. They’re going to discharge Fenris in a few days and continue his treatment at Moon Sanctuary.

I nodded, watching the clear liquid drip steadily into Fenris’s arm. His wolf was fading, but with the right treatment, we could bring it back.

Fenris had been staring at the ceiling, but his attention shifted when he noticed me. His eyes, clouded with medication, found mine.

How are you feeling?I asked, moving closer to the bed.

He lifted a hand toward me, and I took it without hesitation. His skin felt paperthin, the bones prominent beneath.

Your wolf will regain its strength soon, I promise. The words came easily, with certainty. I’d studied enough about Lunaris Essence to know it would work.

His hand trembled in mine. May I ask you for something? His voice was barely a whisper, broken around the edges.

Of course, anything, Uncle Fenris

He glanced briefly at Isolde before turning back to me. Stay with us at Moon Sanctuary for one week.

My heart stopped. One week in Silverblood territory? One week under the same roof as Tristan? Impossible. I opened my mouth to refuse, but Isolde’s hand settled on my shoulder.
