Chapter 39
As soon as Adrian finished speaking, several other shareholders chimed in.
A manager in his forties said, “Yeah, same here. Everything’s a mess. Workloads have tripled, and we’re just supposed to suck it up”
Another guy said, “If this keeps up, I don’t see Miracle Youth lasting much longer.”
“Look, Ms. Greene, I get that you built this company from the ground up, but you’ve been away for years. Even if you have a vision, you can’t just flip the table and expect everything to fall into place overnight,” another man said with an angry face.
Phoebe didn’t respond to their complaints. Instead, she calmly turned to Cora and said, “Show me what Mr. Turner’s department has been working on lately.”
Adrian widened his eyes and asked in shock, “Ms. Greene, what’s that supposed to mean? You don’t trust me?”
Taking the file from Cora, Phoebe glanced at Adrian with a faint smile. “Mr. Turner, I trust data more than you. At least they don’t lie.
You–Adrian’s face turned red with anger, but he couldn’t say anything.
Phoebe, however, had already flipped through the file. She looked up and shot a cold glance at Adrian. “According to these records, your department has a total of five projects. Three of them aren’t due for another six months, and the other two have been running for a year but still aren’t finished.
“Instead of complaining to me, maybe you should ask yourself why your team, with all those people before, couldn’t even wrap up two projects in a year.”
Adrian’s face darkened, humiliation washing over him. He gritted his teeth and snapped, “Those two projects are almost done. And everyone else has work on their plate. I can’t just pull them away to clean up those messes.”
Phoebe’s tone was icy as she replied, “That’s your problem. I don’t need to hear how you handle it. I care only about the results. Also, your department hasn’t secured a single deal this year. If it keeps bleeding money, I’ll shut it down by the end of the year.”
Adrian’s expression turned grim. He stared at Pheobe and snapped, “Ms. Greene, this company isn’t yours alone. You can’t just call all the shots.”
Phoebe raised her brows and met his glare head–on. “Then let’s wait and see. If your department keeps losing money, it won’t just be me–other shareholders will take a hit too.”
Hearing that, the room fell silent. Several shareholders, who had been on the verge of siding with Adrian, suddenly hesitated. Their discomfort was palpable.
Phoebe didn’t bother sparing Adrian another glance. She stood up and said in an indifferent tone, “I’ll be setting quarterly and annual targets for every department. If you fall too far behind by year’s end, you’ll either step aside or the department gets shut down.”
Seeing that no one objected, Phoebe announced, “If there’s nothing else to discuss, let’s call it a day.”
Adrian’s fists clenched as he watched her leave, his gaze dark with resentment.
For the next few days, Phoebe was buried in company affairs. She barely saw Declan–just passing each other in the morning and when they got home at night.
Soon, it was the day before Cora’s birthday. After work, Phoebe headed straight to Miracle Youth to pick up the dress she had designed for Cora.

Chapter 39
Just as Pheobe stepped into the mall, she ran into Jennifer and Serene. They were shopping with their arms linked. The moment they spotted Pheobe, they both stiffened.
Serene said with a frown while staring at Phoebe, “What are you doing here?”
Just taking care of something.” Pheobe replied curtly.

Phoebe knew perfectly well that, in Serene’s eyes, Jennifer had always been the ideal daughter–in–law. No matter how hard Phoebe had tried over the years, Serene never truly acknowledged her.
But now, Phoebe couldn’t care less. She wasn’t about to tiptoe around Serene like she used to do.
Seeing Phoebe about to walk away, Serene said with displeasure, “Since you’re here, help me pick out a few dresses.”
Serene often bought dresses that looked good on the rack but didn’t quite suit her. After a few shopping trips with Phoebe, she’d noticed that Phoebe had an eye for what worked best for her.
Those dresses chosen by Pheobe would always help Serene win praise from her rich friends. Ever since then, Serene had insisted on Phoebe’s opinion when shopping.
Jennifer also picked out dresses for Serene today, and while they weren’t bad, none of them felt quite right for Serene.
