Declan’s gaze turned ice–cold as he spoke in a low, firm voice, “I’ve already looked into this. It looks like Bianca was behind it. But if I dig a little deeper, it won’t be hard to find traces leading back to you. I’m giving you one last chance–were you involved or not?”

Jennifer was intimidated by the sharpness of his tone. Fear gripped her for a moment before she finally admitted through gritted teeth, “Yes, it was me, because I’ve had enough of seeing you with her. I should be the one standing by your side, not HER.

“I was so jealous that it drove me insane. That’s why I did it. Go ahead, laugh at me if you want.”

Declan’s lips pressed into a tight line, and he replied in a cool tone, “I’ll let this slide this time. But don’t pull this childish stunt again. I don’t want to completely erase the last bit of goodwill I have toward you.”

With that, he hung up, his mood turning even fouler.

He told himself it was time to speed up the acquisition of Miracle Youth. Once it was under his control, he’d hand it over to Jennifer and cut off any reason for her to keep hovering around him.

The next morning, just as Phoebe was getting out of bed, she got a call from Liam. “Morning, Phoebe, did you get up?”

Hearing the slight caution in his voice, she frowned. “What do you want?”

Liam cleared his throat and explained, “Last night, we didn’t really get a chance to sit down and talk. Your grandpa and grandma had the chef make all your favorite dishes. Come home for dinner tonight, will you?”

Phoebe instantly understood why Liam’s attitude had suddenly softened. But if they thought she and Declan would help the Greene family, they were in for a disappointment.

Even if she and Declan were on good terms–which they weren’t–she would never let him be used by them.

Pheobe replied curtly, “Sorry, I don’t have time.”

Liam hesitated for a second and asked, “Aren’t you just a housewife? What are you busy with?”

She replied, “I got a job. I’m heading to work now. If there’s nothing else to say, I’m hanging up.”

Liam was momentarily stunned. By the time he snapped out of it, the call had already ended.

Beside him, Olivia’s face twisted in annoyance. “Well? Is she coming or not?”

Liam shook his head. “She said she found a job and didn’t have time.”

Olivia scoffed, full of disdain. “What kind of job could she possibly get? Scrubbing dishes at some restaurant? If that’s what she’s doing, you better talk her out of it before she embarrasses us.”

Liam’s expression turned cold as he shot her a warning look. “Phoebe is Declan’s wife. Watch what you say.”

Olivia let out a bitter laugh and shot back, “If Declan hadn’t been crippled back then, do you really think his family would’ve let an uneducated high school dropout marry him?”

Back then, Phoebe suddenly disappeared for a while and dropped out of school completely. When she returned, she never mentioned going Back to finish her education. Among the Greenes, she had the lowest academic background.

Cathy even used it as ammunition to mock Pheobe whenever she could. Every time, Olivia felt humiliated by it. If it weren’t for Jennifer making her proud, she couldn’t imagine how Cathy would have humiliated her even more.

“Olivia, I’m warning you, Phoebe is your daughter, whether you like it or not,” Liam snapped.

“I have only one daughter, and that’s Jennie.” With that, Olivia turned on her heels and walked away.

Liam sighed, rubbing his temples as frustration crept up his spine. After a moment, he called his assistant and ordered, “Find out where Phoebe is working.”

At 10 AM, people were having a meeting in the conference room on the top floor of Miracle Youth’s Headquarters.

Adrian sat at the head of the table, his face stormy with rage. He slammed a stack of documents onto the table and fixed his eyes on Phoebe. “Ms. Greene, my entire department has been fired, and the new hires haven’t even arrived yet. We’re close to shutting down completely.

“On top of that, several of our business partners are breathing down my neck for deliverables. The remaining staff has been working overtime for over a week, some of them pulling all–nighters just to keep things afloat.

“And guess what? A bunch of them finally snapped and put in their resignations. This mess is caused by you. Please tell me, what’s your plan to fix it?”
