She understood she wouldn’t change his mind, so Phoebe simply nodded and asked, “Alright. Where should I and Mr. White stay the night?”

“Patrick will arrange a room for him later. As for you, you’ll stay with me,” Declan stated.

“Alright. I’ll go out first, then,” Phoebe said.

After Phoebe left, Declan made a call and said coldly, “Search in the direction Phoebe and Yann came from. Tell where they’ve been these days.”

Declan only believed half of what Phoebe had said.

She and Yann had deliberately avoided his men. Therefore, Declan was not easily convinced that the truth was as straightforward as Phoebe claimed. He sensed that she must be hiding something from him.

In the evening, Phoebe had planned to go for a walk after dinner. Unexpectedly, Declan suddenly proposed that Yann .perform acupuncture on him.

Phoebe understood that he was still skeptical, but she didn’t decline. Instead, she promptly called Yann.

A few minutes later, Yann arrived with acupuncture equipment.

“Mr. Richardson, this time the acupuncture treatment may be even more painful than it was three years ago. If you can’t endure it, just let me know at any time,” Yann warned.

“Thank you, Mr. White,” Declan said.

Yann told Patrick to lie Declan out flat on the bed. Once Phoebe had left, he ordered Patrick to strip Declan and started this acupuncture session.

Each time Yann stuck an acupuncture needle in Declan, he would ask if Declan felt pain.

When the needles reached a spot behind Declan’s calf, he suddenly furrowed his brow, and beads of sweat popped up on his forehead.

“Mr. Richardson, from here on out, the pain’s gonna ramp up. Let me know if you can’t hack it,” Yann warned.

Yann kept on the treatment, and Declan’s face twisted from discomfort.

By the time the last needle was in, Declan was drenched in sweat from intense agony.

Yann couldn’t help but give Declan a bit of respect. He never expected Declan to have the guts to endure it all. Most people couldn’t endure that kind of pain after the first jab.

“Mr. Richardson, I’ll be back in thirty minutes to pull these needles out,” Yann said.

Declan was in so much pain, and even humming a little would increase the pain tenfold in an instant.

Thirty minutes later, when Yann yanked out the needles, Declan’s face was as white as a sheet.

“Mr. Richardson, give it a shot walking around later. You might manage a few steps now, but your legs will hurt worse than before the injection,” Yann said.

When Phoebe stepped in, Patrick had already dressed Declan.

Seeing her coming in, Declan stretched out his hand and said, “Give me a hand up.”

Phoebe stepped forward and helped him up. Declan was practically leaning his full weight on her.

“Mr. White just said I should be able to take a few steps,” he said.

With Phoebe’s support, Declan took his first tentative step. However, the pain in his legs made him break out in a cold sweat instantly. He couldn’t help but grunt in annoyance.

The two were so close, Phoebe could feel Declan’s whole body quivering slightly, his muscles taut as steel,

Phoebe furrowed her brow and said, “Mr. Richardson, maybe it’s best to leave after all three treatments before trying to walk. The pain will be less intense then.”

Declan shook his head. “Nah.”

With Phoebe’s support, Declan took a few steps forward. Suddenly, the pain in his legs was replaced with numbness. Then, his body collapsed to the floor.

Phoebe quickly grabbed his arm and helped him back onto the bed.

“Mr. Richardson, I’ll get you some water to wipe your body,” she said.

As she was about to head towards the bathroom, Declan grasped her wrist. He asked, “Phoebe, how long till my leg heals?”
