Chapter 18

Jennifer’s eyes instantly welled up with tears, and the shot back, “But we love each other, don’t we? You and Pheebs have no feelings for each other. Why are you holding onto a marriage that means nothing?”
Declan stayed silent for a moment before looking at Jennifer and saying, “Whatever happened between us is in the past. Even if I don’t love her, she’s still my wife. That’s not going to change
Jennifer’s tears fell instantly, and her eyes were filled with disbelief. “So just because she married you while you were recovering from that accident and took care of you for two years, you fell for her?!”
“I didn’t, but I’m not divorcing her either, replied Declan.
“Why not?”
“I couldn’t walk for two years after the car accident. She was the one who stayed by my side and took care of me the whole
time
What he didn’t say was that every time he thought about divorcing Phoebe, an inexplicable frustration crept up inside him.
Jennifer almost cried her eyes out, and she said with a trembling voice, “Just because you don’t want to be labeled ungrateful? What about me? You hid your accident from me. By the time I learned it, you were already married to Pheebs. Do you have any idea how that felt?”
She clenched her fists and continued shouting, “I wanted to fly back and demand an explanation, but I told myself it didn’t matter anymore. If you just want to repay her, there are other ways to do it. Why throw away your whole life?”
Declan’s expression remained indifferent, and he locked eyes with her. “I know I owe you a lot. That’s why when you came back and asked to stay in that villa, I agreed. When you said you wanted Miracle Youth, I started working on acquiring it for you. But my love, sorry, I can’t give you that.”
Without waiting for Jennifer’s response, Declan turned on his heels and walked away.
Jennifer stood frozen, watching his retreating figure through teary eyes. She was still unwilling to accept this. She swore in her mind, ‘No way. I’m not giving up. Not a chance!
When Phoebe finally came downstairs, Declan and Jennifer were both gone. She didn’t bother thinking about it and went straight to work.
The moment she got to the office, she called Cora in and instructed, “I’ll be out for a few days starting tomorrow. You handle things while I’m away. If anything comes up that you really can’t deal with, just wait till I’m back.”
“Got it,” Cora replied.
Seeing that Cora was still standing there, Phoebe raised her eyebrows and asked, “Something else to say?”
“Yeah, Adrian might give you a hard time in today’s meeting. Ever since his people got laid off yesterday, he’s been fuming in his office.”
Phoebe nodded. “Noted. You can get back to work.”
Once Cora left, Phoebe returned to read her documents, clearly unbothered by the news.
At exactly 10 PM, the meeting started. Phoebe went over the latest business strategies and key projects. She then glanced around the room, announcing, “If there’s nothing else to report, we’ll wrap it up here. Thanks.”
Just as she finished speaking, Adrian spoke up, “Ms. Greene, I actually have something to bring up.”

Chapter 18
Phoebe met his gaze, her expression calm. “Go ahead.”
Adrian said with a smile, “Ms. Greene, there’s a deal we’ve been struggling to close. If you personally step in, I’m sure we can
land it.
“And since you’ve been away from Miracle Youth for three years, this would be a great chance for us to see your capabilities. After all, a company this size shouldn’t be run by someone who isn’t up to the task.”
Phoebe showed a faint smile and nodded. “Sure. Drop the contract off at my office later.”
Adrian hadn’t expected her to agree so easily. He was stunned for a second before replying, “Great, good luck to you, Ms. Greene.”
After the meeting, Cora followed Phoebe into her office, looking frustrated. Once she closed the door, Cora immediately said, “Ms. Greene, I warned you about Adrian. Why did you still walk right into his trap?”
