There was a knock on the door.
Neil opened his eyes and sternly said, “Come in.”
Ada brought a glass of milk into the lounge. Her eyes were filled with pity. “Neil, you haven’t had a good rest from all the preparation for the celebration banquet. I’ve heated up a glass of milk for you. Drink it while it’s hot.”
“Leave.”
Ada froze. She boldly took a few steps forward and placed the milk on the table.
“Neil, I’m doing this for you.”
“Leave. Don’t make me repeat myself!”
The displeasure on his face made Ada wince in fear. However, his act of admitting that she was his girlfriend had made her a bit bolder.
“I’m not leaving. I’m staying to take care of you!”
There was a hint of stubbornness in her clear voice. Neil opened his eyes to look at her.
Over the past few years, Ada had been imitating Silvia. He realized this, but he just could not be bothered to do anything about it.
After all, he really missed Silvia. Since Ada’s face and demeanor was becoming identical to Silvia’s, it gave him the illusion that she was still alive. Hence, he kept Ada around.
However, it looked like she was starting to want things that were out of her league.
“I admitted that you were my girlfriend at the party because I didn’t want to deal with people shoving women at me. Don’t get ahead of yourself.”
Ada found it hard to breathe, and she gradually teared up.
“Neil, I’ve been by your side for three years. Do you really not have any feelings for me?”
“You know in your heart why you stayed with me.”
Neil’s unfeeling words were like a slap to Ada’s face. She looked at him and said slowly, “I stayed by your side because I love you. Is three years not enough time to prove my love for you?”
“In that case, your love is cheap!”
Not wanting to waste his breath on her, Neil got up to leave. Just as he walked past her, she suddenly hugged him.
“Neil, don’t leave me—”
