Catarina’s Pov
"Tell me. Where is Alex? Do the right thing in your life, for once." I hissed at Lochlan, frustration and fear making my voice sharp. My heart pounded in my chest as I glared at him, not wanting to hear his empty promises or sudden desire to protect me and our twins. All I cared about in that moment was finding Alex and bringing him back, safe and sound.
Lochlan stammered, caught off guard by my intensity. He tried to offer an explanation, but his words were drowned out by Nathan's small voice. My gaze snapped to our son, his innocent eyes wide with worry.
"Mummy, it was that strange man. He took Alex with him and didn't even say goodbye to us," Nathan suddenly blurted out, his voice trembling slightly. My heart skipped a beat, anger flaring within me. Who could this strange man possibly be? I desperately searched my memory, trying to connect any dots or recall any suspicious characters, but I came up empty-handed.
"My Beta, David?" Lochlan's sudden exclamation caught me off guard. The realization struck me like a bolt of lightning. David. It had to be him. The one who held a grudge against us, the one who would go to extreme lengths to disrupt our lives. The pieces started falling into place, and my determination grew stronger.
Turning to Mindy, I felt a surge of urgency. "Mindy, what did he look like?" I asked, my voice filled with desperation. She described him, confirming my suspicions. It was him. David was holding Alex somewhere, and I couldn't bear the thought of my son in his clutches.
Without hesitation, I gathered the twins in my arms, holding them close to me as I sought comfort in their presence. They were my strength, my reason for pushing forward. Turning to face Lochlan, I felt waves of anger rise within me.
"What makes you think I want or need your help?" I spat, bitterness and resentment lacing my words. "Do you really think I can ever trust you again after everything?"
Lochlan recoiled at my words, hurt briefly flashing in his eyes. His voice turned desperate and sincere as he pleaded, "You can trust me, Catarina."
I scoffed, unable to contain my disbelief. "Trust you?" I scoffed, feeling the sting of betrayal resurfacing. "You've proven time and time again that I can't trust you, Lochlan. I won't make that mistake again."
With one last glare, I spun on my heel and made my way to the door, my focus solely on finding Alex and restoring our shattered family. The chaos that had invaded our lives would not destroy us. Tara and Carl had already caused enough damage, and I refused to let anyone else tear us apart.
Lochlan stood behind me, his remorseful and guilt-ridden gaze piercing through my very being. His words escaped in a quiet and barely audible whisper, "I'm so sorry, Catarina. I will do whatever it takes to make it right."
Fuelled by anger and desperation, I demanded, "Find him. Find your foolish Beta and return my King to me. Otherwise, I will have you locked up and the key thrown away."
Just then, a voice chimed in from a few feet away, causing our attention to shift. "I thought my ears were burning," said the voice. It was David. Lochlan's eyes widened with surprise and relief at the sight of him.
"Where is my King?" I snarled. "You better let him go and get out of this kingdom before you suffer the consequences."
"Well, well, here you are, Alpha Lochlan," David remarked, a smile spreading across his face. "And accompanied by your precious ex Luna. How touching. This certainly changes everything."
