Hiding His Alpha Twins novel Chapter 40

Lochlan’s POV

I was shocked to see this man standing in front of me when I woke up.

"Who are you? Where is King Alex?" I stuttered. The chains around my hands and feet rattled as I moved to a sitting position. I needed a bath or shower at least.

The man smirked, a gleam of amusement in his eyes. "Oh, I'm afraid King Alex won't be joining us anytime soon," he replied smoothly. His voice held a hint of arrogance that annoyed me. "As for who I am, well, let's just say I am someone who has come to make you a deal."

I narrowed my eyes at him, confusion mingling with my grogginess. "A deal? What for? I am chained up like a criminal, I am in desperate need of a bath, and you want to taunt me with deals?"

The man chuckled darkly, crossing his arms over his chest. "Well, Lochlan, you are quite the notorious figure. A rebel leader, they say. And as for the chains, let's just say it's for your own safety."

My mind raced, trying to piece together the events that had led to my current predicament.

"Rebel leader?" I scoffed, a bitter taste in my mouth. "Maybe that's what King Alex sees me as."

The man's smirk widened, clearly amused by my defiance. "Oh, I'm sure you believe in your cause, Lochlan. But trust me, there are many who see you as a threat, as a dangerous man who needs to be contained."

I snorted, despite the discomfort of my chains. "And what do you plan to do with me? Lock me up forever? I am already chained up and unable to go anywhere. I can’t even connect to my own wolf or my pack, yet you say I am dangerous?"

His eyes flickered with something I couldn't quite decipher, but his tone remained calm and composed. "I have a proposal for you, Lochlan. A chance for redemption, if you will. Join me, and together we can bring about real change. No more rebels fighting in the shadows. We can reshape this kingdom, make it better. All I want is your word that you will help me?"

I considered his words, torn between scepticism and the nagging desire to truly make a difference. But the chains around my hands and feet reminded me of the powerlessness I currently possessed.

"And if I refuse?" I asked, my voice tinged with defiance.

The man's smile vanished, and a steely determination replaced it. "Then you will rot in this cell for the rest of your days, Lochlan. Your choice. Your pack will remain without an alpha and beta and your precious ex Luna will forever be haunted by the fact that she thinks that she killed your beta."

"What are you saying?" I blinked, unsure if this was a sick and twisted prank.

"King Alex and Catarina believe that Catarina killed him when she shot him, but he is not dead. It was a trick to get them out of here."

The revelation hit me like a lightning bolt, shattering the assumptions that had clouded my thoughts. David wasn't dead. The notion that his alleged murder had been a ruse, a calculated plan to outsmart King Alex and Catarina, sparked a glimmer of hope within me. So, my pack had come for me, they believed I was worthy enough to be saved.

As his words lingered in the air, I couldn't help but feel a mix of astonishment and intrigue. The intensity of his conviction, combined with the bitterness in his voice, painted a picture of a man who had long yearned for power and recognition. It was clear that he believed he possessed the qualities necessary to lead, his desire fuelling his disdain for the current ruler.

A shiver ran down my spine as I began to grasp the weight of his proposition. If I agreed to his plan, if I played a part in dethroning the king, he promised to grant me the return of my beloved Luna and the safety of our children. It seemed like an irresistible offer, a chance to reunite with the ones I loved and secure their well-being.

Yet, doubts still clouded my mind. How could he truly deliver on his promise? Was he truly willing and capable of outmanoeuvring and eliminating the king? And what would happen to Luna, who had been marked by the king? Could her bond with him be severed?

The man seemed to sense my lingering uncertainty, his eyes narrowing with determination. "I have spent years studying him, observing his every move," he explained, his voice laced with a calculated confidence. "I may not possess the mark or the title, but I have a keen understanding of his weaknesses and the potential vulnerabilities in his reign."

His words ignited a glimmer of hope within me, but caution urged me to probe further. "But how can you guarantee that Luna will be free from his grasp?" I inquired; my voice laced with scepticism.

A wry smile danced upon his lips, as he replied, "The mark is powerful, but it is not unbreakable. I have allies who possess unique abilities, capable of disrupting the bond. It will not be easy, nor without risks, but it is possible."

His confidence, coupled with the knowledge that he had a team of skilled individuals supporting him, began to sway my decision. The opportunity to escape the clutches of the king's control, to reclaim freedom and ensure the safety of my family, seemed tantalizingly close.

The man's eyes bore into mine, searching for any hesitation or wavering resolve. "So, Lochlan," he uttered, his voice heavy with both challenge and conviction. "Are you ready to defy the current king, to rise against his tyranny and claim what is rightfully yours?"
