Alex's POV
I received the news of the intruder's demise from one of my loyal warriors, his voice laced with urgency and a hint of relief. The weight of responsibility settled upon my shoulders as I absorbed the information. The castle may be surrounded and protected, but there was no certainty if there were any other intruders lurking in the shadows.
Closing my eye, I issued a command to Carl, through our telepathic connection. The urgency in my thoughts weighed heavily upon him, urging him to send a contingent of men to track down and seize every member of the intruder's pitiful pack. My eyes narrowed with determination as I emphasized the immediacy of the task. Each one of them would be held accountable, their threat neutralized without delay.
Carl swiftly responded through our mind-link, assuring me of his commitment to the task at hand. I watched as he swiftly set in motion the necessary measures to bring the pack under control, his unwavering loyalty evident in every movement.
But even as I delegated the critical task, my thoughts never dared to stray far from Cat and the Twins. Their safety remained my highest priority. I followed in Cat's wake as she entered the room, her figure perched delicately on the edge of the bed. Her expression revealed the storm of emotions churning within her, her mind working tirelessly to process the events that had unfolded so unexpectedly.
Every line on her face spoke volumes - the furrowed brow, the pursed lips, the searching gaze. I couldn't help but notice the weariness etched into her features, a reflection of the burden she bore as the Queen. As her King, it was my duty to protect and support her, lightening the weight that threatened to overwhelm her.
Moving silently, I closed the distance between us, my footsteps almost a whisper on the floor. I reached out a hand, letting my fingers gently brush against her cheek, a tender gesture to offer solace amidst the chaos. Her eyes met mine, a maelstrom of emotions swirling within their depths.
Wordlessly, I sat beside her, our closeness a quiet reassurance amidst the uncertainty that engulfed us. We sat together in pregnant silence, sharing an unspoken understanding that despite the challenges we faced, we would face them as a united front.
In that moment, I knew that we would navigate this treacherous path together, safeguarding our love, our kingdom, and most importantly, our cherished twins. As we gathered the strength to forge ahead, determination seeped into my veins, fuelling my resolve to vanquish any threat that dared to jeopardize the safety of my beloved Queen and our precious family.
"My Queen, listen to me. Pack your stuff. We are leaving. It's not safe here for you or the Twins." I informed my Queen. She looked confused.
As the news of Lochlan’s beta’s death hung heavily in the air, I turned to Catarina, urgency evident in my voice and expression. "Catarina, we have to leave," I said firmly, my gaze locking onto hers. "It's not safe here for you or the Twins."
Confusion flickered across her face, her brows furrowing as she tried to make sense of my words. In her eyes, I could see a mix of fear, concern, and disbelief. But I knew I had to make her understand the gravity of the situation.
Taking a step closer to her, I gently rested both hands on her shoulders, willing her to listen. "Lochlans men, they're lurking," I explained, my voice low, yet filled with conviction. "I won't allow any harm to come to you or the Twins. We need to get them to safety."
Catarina blinked, processing the information. The weight of the impending danger seemed to settle upon her, and a flicker of fear crossed her eyes. I tightened my grip on her shoulders, trying to convey my resolve and determination.
"I killed him?" she looked shocked.
"Nadia, Nathan. You are both safe. We are going on a little adventure. How does that sound?"
With reassuring tones, we softly whispered their names, Nadia and Nathan, embracing them tightly to let them know we were there. Their small bodies trembled with vulnerability.
"Is that man going to shoot us?" Nathan asked. I looked into his innocent wide eyes and shook my head before hugging him again.
"Nobody will hurt you. We're here for you. We won't let anything happen to you," I promised, my voice filled with determination and love.
Catarina, her arms encircling both Twins, nodded in agreement, her voice echoing my sentiments. "We'll protect you, no matter what. We'll get out of here, all together," she vowed, her strength resonating within each word.
"Let’s go." I said, scooping the Twins up in my arms and gesturing for Mindy and my queen to follow.
I needed to make sure they were safe then I would deal with that pitiful pack and useless Alpha once and for all.
