From Rougue To Luna novel Chapter 5

Why would I be jealous of this young girl looking at this wolf I barely knew? This was getting ridiculous.

She quickly placed the tray in front of us and stepped back, keeping her eyes to the floor and nodding. "Alpha."

He moved to begin uncovering the food and thanked her before she quickly scurried out of the room. I let out a quiet laugh under my breath and his eyes looked up curiously into mine. "What's funny?"

I quickly stifled the giggle and shook my head. "Nothing, it's just funny that you don't notice it."

His brows rose as he stared at me. "Notice what?"

I smirked at him and reached for a roll sitting on one of the plates in front of me. I tossed a piece into my mouth and then another before I answered. "The way you affect females around you."

He shook his head and reached for a roll as well. "She's just nervous because I'm her Alpha."

I laughed again and continued eating the roll. "Mmhmm."

We each moved on to the plates in front of us, eating in comfortable silence. I inhaled my plate, not realizing how long it had been since I'd had a full meal that tasted as good as this one. I tried to hide the ravenous hunger inside as I finished my plate quicker than planned. Everett finished and pushed his plate away, placing the covers back over them. He walked over and placed the tray outside of my door on the floor and shut the door behind him.

"What are you doing?" I asked curiously.

He looked at me with a surprised expression before making his way back over to sit next to me again. "I'm leaving it for her to come back and get. She should be back in a few minutes. They normally check every thirty minutes."

I shook my head and realized I was definitely in a new world. This was nothing like I'd ever been used to in my life. Even with him we hadn't had servants checking on our every need. Another rogue shiver ran down my spine and I silently cursed myself for letting him creep into my thoughts even now.

He placed his hands behind his head and leaned further back, sighing heavily. In the light of the room I noticed that his jaw was rough with stubble and his striking features were chiseled like he'd been created by hand from the moon herself. His dark hair was brushed back away from his face and his body seemed to rebel against the confines of his restricting clothing. My attention snapped back to reality as his gorgeous baby blue eyes caught mine with a twinkle of knowing as he spoke. "It's not common, but it's happened. I wouldn't want to force you into anything you didn't want."

I thought for a moment before answering. "And what if I chose not to accept."

"Then you'd have to search for somewhere else to make your new home. Once the mate bond is established, it becomes painful if we are around each other without completing the bond. Neither of us would be able to be here together and stay healthy and happy." He spoke plainly, but I knew he was just trying to be honest with me.

My stomach knotted and anxiety began to roll through me yet again. "So then yes, it's something I'm open to. There's no where else I can go at this point. But I'm not sure the pack will accept me as your mate regardless knowing who I was. Who I am."

His eyes met mine in understanding and I felt a slight irritation build in me. He knew exactly what I meant. "We wouldn't have to tell them who you were if you didn't want. You could come in with your new name. Although it's unlikely that no one will recognize you. I would have eventually if you hadn't taken me by surprise."
