I sighed and leaned casually against the door, crossing my arms across my chest. I hoped I gave off a more relaxed vibe than I truly felt. Inside I was panicking. These couldn't possibly be my only options. "Then I guess we explore it. What could it hurt right?" I shrugged.
He nodded slowly and eyed me, waiting patiently for me to select the path of conversation. I finally gathered the courage to direct us and decided to begin with him instead. "So, you said you'd given up on your mate. What have you been doing all this time then?"
His body tensed slightly, but he held his relaxed position. "I won't lie to you. I haven't spent it completely alone. I held out for a long time, but once I'd accepted that I might not ever have a mate, I allowed myself some comfort with some of the females here. I feel like you should know that before moving forward."
I felt that stab of jealousy return and I pushed it away in frustration. Who was I to get upset? "I understand. I didn't spend all these years alone either. Most but not all."
I prayed he wouldn't press and he must have sensed it. "I know." He said.
My eyes widened and I let out a scoff. "Excuse me?"
He stared into my eyes and answered plainly, honestly, but I could see his features tighten with every word. "As your mate, and your Alpha, I can sense it. I can smell that you've known another male. You should be able to sense it on me as well."
My jaw dropped slightly and I quickly closed it, trying to focus. I walked over and stood closer to him, testing his revelation. My eyes widened as I realized I could in fact sense that he'd known other females. I could smell their foreign scents faintly on him.
He smirked up at me and nodded. "So, we're in agreement then. We can move past that part of both of our pasts?"
I nodded quickly and my shoulders relaxed, glad he wasn't choosing to press further. I was curious who these females were, but chose not to open that can of worms until I was ready to answer my own.
My jaw dropped slightly and I quickly closed it before turning to face him fully. "You came to see me? But you're the Alpha's son. The pack was forbidden to speak to me, especially you."
He nodded as a slight scowl replaced his neutral expression. "Yes, well, I did. When I'd come back, I waited to tell him you'd gone until that evening since you hadn't shifted yet. I thought you'd need time to get a head start. Once I finally told him, he lost it. No one had ever left the pack without his permission before. I guess since you were an Omega, you found the loophole."
"What loophole?" I couldn't believe what I was hearing. The young alpha of all people had come to see me. But why?
He leaned forward, pressing his thick forearms against the tops of his large muscular legs. His shirt clung to every crest and valley rippling beneath it and my breath caught slightly as I realized just how strong he truly was. "Well, normally for a pack member to leave they'd have to receive permission for the pack bond to be broken from their alpha. But since you were an Omega, there was no bond to break. You were free to leave all along, although, had he known he would have caught you and forced you to stay I'm sure."
