From Rougue To Luna novel Chapter 4

"This is incredible." I breathed. It was more than I'd ever hoped to have. I'd never known anything this luxurious in my entire life. Our home here was a simple bare cabin on the edge of the meadow. Since I'd left, I'd only been in one place as richly decorated as this. A shiver ran down my spine at the thought of him and I tried desperately to push it away before he noticed.

"Are you all right?" He spoke lowly. I jumped as his voice broke through the silence, tension rolling through me. I hadn't even heard him come in behind me. I turned and his hands shot up in the air. "Whoa, it's ok."

I raked a hand through my thick waves and exhaled the breath I'd been holding. "Sorry, I didn't hear you. Yes I'm fine."

He raised a dark eyebrow at me and stepped away from the door, letting me past him as I walked back into the room. My body warmed at his closeness and I shook my head at the roller coaster that was running through me. I walked toward the bed and zipped open my bag, letting out a tight laugh at how ridiculous I must seem to him. I stared down and spoke quietly. "I swear I'm not normally this crazy. It's just...weird being back here and everything since I walked across that border."

He walked to look out the window and sighed. "I understand. I'd nearly given up on a mate. I thought that since I hadn't found her by now, something must have happened to her. I'd basically mapped out my future alone, and then you smacked into me. Literally."

"You got in my way. I was just walking minding my own business before I ran in to this giant wall of muscle."

He laughed and turned to face me. "Well...you're here now."

I gave him a small smile and nodded. "Apparently."

His piercing blue stare held mine, and the energy quickly grew thick around us. I could feel it seeping through every nerve and muscle before radiating deep in my chest. I felt my heart stall and I could hear his skipping abnormally as well. I forced myself to speak, trying to break through the haze surrounding us both. "So, since I never paid attention to the mate part of our teaching, what exactly is supposed to happen next? Where do we go from here?"

He crossed the room and stood in the doorway, pausing to answer me. "First, we eat, and then we figure it out together. Sound good?"

I nodded and let out a breath as he walked out of the room, shutting the door behind him. I took the few moments he was gone to try and refocus my brain. How could this be happening? How could this happen after everything I'd been through.

He stepped through the door and shut it behind him, stepping further into the room and motioning over to the couch. I followed his lead and sat down next to him, moving over to give him plenty of room. He still sat within inches of me as his large body filled most of the seat next to me. His closeness sent a fresh surge of warmth through my body and I focused hard to regulate my heart rate.

"Dinner should be up in just a moment, and I figured you'd be ok having it in here for now."

I nodded and opened my mouth to speak but shut it quickly as another knock sounded at the door. "Enter." He spoke loudly.

A young female walked in with a tray full of food and I noticed that her eyes locked on the large alpha sitting next to me before she quickly tried to avoid his gaze. I could hear her heart rate quicken and I felt a surprising stab of jealousy.

What the hell?
