“We were not mean to you.” Lillian stepped forward, her face still contorted in anger. “If anything, you were the one who was just rude to us for no reason at all. We did nothing to deserve such treatment from you.”
Lillian looked like she was fumming and I didn’t need her getting so worked up over some stupid man whose job was probably the only lifeline he had.
I put a hand on her shoulder to calm her down before turning to Tom. “There must be some other problem, no?”
Tom cocked his head, his eyes glinting with curiosity. I didn’t know how he’d take what happened but I knew I had to at least let him know what was really happening.
“We came here with the intention of seeing the place as my client wants to purchase an apartment. He was so rude to us and insulted my character repeatedly despite my attempts at letting him know we just wanted to take a look at the place.” I explained.
Through all this, Tom had been listening carefully. When I finished, he turned to look at the security guard who was shaking his head in denial.
“That’s not true. I swear she’s trying to lie against me.” The security guard insisted.
Tom looked around for a bit. One of the men standing behind him leaned closer and whispered something in his ears.
Tom turned back to us again, and he looked pissed.
“I got a report from some others that have come here,” he started, “So you’ve been rude to all the users of the apartment building.”
“N–no sir,” he stuttered. “I-”
Tom cut him off and continued to speak. “Even the guests who come to see the house. You’ve been rude to them under the banner of the company.”
The man looked like a deer caught in headlights. He bowed his head and began to stutter out a string of apologizes.
“I should have all of you fired.” Tom glowered at him.
“Please sir. Have mercy.” The man continued to beg, snot running down his nose as he cried.
I went up to Tom immediately. As satisfying as it would be, I didn’t think firing him now would be the best.
“It’s okay, Tom. Just leave them.” I said to him.
He didn’t look quite satisfied with that but luckily he didn’t look so insistent on pursuing it anymore.
I turned to Lillian who had been silently watching everything play out. I didn’t know if she still had any interest left in checking out the place but it wouldn’t hurt to ask.
“You in the mood to deal with this?”
Her eyes widened a bit when she realized what I was referring to. Her eyes crinkled as she smiled. With a nod, she made her way to me.
I took that as my sign and turned to Tom, silently asking permission for what I was about to do. He bowed his head ever so slightly, the corner of his lip tugging upward just a little.
With that, I began investigating the security guards who were all lined up. Their faces were stoic as I passed each of them.
I started with asking some questions, a couple of them being reluctant to answer me. I had to find out which of them were the good guys, which didn’t take their jobs seriously. I would then fire the latter if that was what I wanted.
I had just passed the last man when I heard some chuckling from the end of the line, I turned to them, my eyes narrowing down on who could have done something.
“What was that?” I folded my arms.
One of the men stepped forward. “I said, we don’t need no bitch telling us how to do our jobs.”
The other men continued to chuckle. There were a few of them that stayed silent as this went on. The man who had spoken seemed pretty confident.
