His gaze flicked to me in concern. Ile regarded me for a while before turning to froste,

“Keep her safe.” He said firmly.

“On my life.” Froste said immediately, the words coming out in a solemn promise..

I raised my head, trying to get a better looked at the cloaked figures. They were surrounding the magic formation. When I squinted my eyes even more, I could see that the magic formation was a chimera, a plant that was used for masking odours.

Without another word, Haelor took the lead and made the first attack. His wolf lunged at the figures, tearing into the arm one of them.

They all booked it, hurrying away despite the injuries they sustained. Askhan lowered his sword, watching as they ran away before turning back to me.

Arthur moved to the magical array and so did Froste. He lowered me gently onto the ground, keeping an eye on me briefly before turning to the formation.

Both of them exchanged a glance before slicing through the chimera in sync. The formation was destroyed in the blink of an eye.

Just like that, the pain slowly began to dissipate. I managed to stand up with little effort just as the pain finally subsided.

“You good?” Froste asked, still looking at me with concern.

I nodded. “I’m fine now.”

I closed my eyes, trying to communicate my wolf. Just when it seemed it wasn’t going to work, I heard her voice again.

Evelyn.

It sounded like a child.

I’m glad you’re okay, I said to her.

I’m fine as long as you are, Evelyn. I was sealed when you were only ten years old. I’ve been sleeping since then, unable to grow up.

The first time I felt a crack in the seal was when you and Froste ended your mate relationship.

I listened in shock as she explained all this. This was the first time we were having such a conversation and getting to learn all this was nothing short of a surprise.

I looked over at Froste at this point. He was silently following the group, dealing with the chaos that came with the aftermath of the battle,

His eyes turned to me and I held my breath. He’d caught me staring. Instead of making a big deal out of it, he simply smiled.

I didn’t know what to make of the mixed feelings I was getting. Froste had somehow barrelled his way into my life again despite all my attempts to get him out of my mind.

The memory of when he’d declared he was going to chase me was still fresh in my mind. Back then, when we had that argument, that had been the butterfly effect to me finally finding my family.

It happened in the blink of an eye.

The magic array around him activated again before any of us realized. A blinding shower of white light swallowed Frosté up.

“Froste!” I yelled out his name.

Everybody had turned to him now, all of them stunned. The glare lasted for some seconds before it finally disappeared. Everything seemed calm again. Except for one thing.

Froste was gone.

“Froste.” I said, the words leaving my lips as barely above a whisper.

“What the hell?” Halven looked around, still trying to make sense of what just happened.
