Chapter 117
He also rugged tactical trousers with reinforced knees paired with high–grade military. Completing his ensemble was a wristwatch built for endurance.
“What are you two doing here?” I asked, my gaze flicking between two of them. “Didn’t we agree yesterday that Froste would accompany me?” Askhan’s mood did a complete flip. “I’m going to inspect the borders. As royal prince of the kingdom, it is my duty to do that.”
I turned to Haelor. “And you?”
Haelor had an unapologetic look on his face. “I’m the general. Travelling to the border shouldn’t be something that requires the basis of your journey for me.”
I simply hummed, eyeing the both of them carefully. Those were all just excuses. Deep down, I know why they were really here. They wanted to follow me on the journey to the border and I knew they wouldn’t take no for an answer.
Arthur had a cheeky smile on his face as he watched us. “Well Evelyn, this trip might be more fun with both of them deciding to tag along.”
“You’re just saying that.” I resisted the urge to roll my eyes.
“And-” He paused, a knowing look in his eyes. It was hard to miss the amusement that swarm in them.
I wanted to tear my hair out. Arthur’s coy act wasn’t half as amusing as he probably thought it was. There was a look in his eyes, like he wanted me to guess what he was hinting at.
“With two them around,” I started carefully. “There won’t be any suspicious eyes on us. No one would realize we’re there since both the royal prince and the general are there. It’s brilliant.”
Arthur nodded, a look of pride in his eyes. “Nicely done, Evelyn. You’re a quick thinker. I like that.”
“Thank you, teacher.” I beamed, unable to hold back the smile on my face.
“Now there’s one more issue to settle.” Arthur’s mood had changed.
I leaned my head to the side. “What’s that?”
“Froste.” He simply answered.
“Well what about him?”
“His presence in our party makes the least sense,” Arthur explained. “How do we explain why an instructor of the Royal Academy is following us?”
He was right. Thing would be more discreet if we decided to go ourselves. But with Froste coming along, it would be harder to blend in.
Not to mention the extravagant caravan. As I thought hard on it, I couldn’t help but notice the loopholes that seemingly laid in our plans.
There had to be something I could do about it. On instinct, I turned to look at Froste who had silently been following all this while.
He was wearing a simple, well–fitted field jacket in dark green color. There were no insignias or logos on his jacket. A plain crew–neck sweater in black, layered beneath the jacket.
He had on some cargo pants, paired with well–worn leather boots. I noticed he was carrying a small backpack for essentials. There weren’t any emblems on it–nothing indicating his status as someone from the Royal Academy.
Froste had a small smile on his face. He’d probably been listening to Arthur’s words. I didn’t know how hearing it would make him feel.
He sent me a small nod, the smile never leaving his face. I let out a breath I didn’t know I’d been holding.
“That’s fine. I don’t believe it’s going to cause any problems for us.” Froste explained, his voice holding a confidence I found interesting
“Let’s hope it doesn’t.” Askhan added, his eyes fixed on Froste.
If eyes could burn, Froste would be a pile of ash now with how hard the Royal Prince was glaring at him.
