They Want Me Back When It's Too Late (Jessica and Brian) novel Chapter 344

Chapter 344

What?!Brian couldn’t believe what he’d just heard.

Jessica turned her head away. If you don’t want to, forget it.She moved to close the door.

Brian stepped forward quickly, bracing one hand against the doorframe. Yes, I’m willing! I’d be willing even if you asked me to cook for you every single day!

Jessica had finally lowered her guard and was reaching out to them. He couldn’t possibly say no.

Yes, Mom. Dad and I are super, super willing!Jacob chimed in excitedly.

Brian nodded firmly, his eyes shining joyfully as he looked directly at Jessica. Jessi, thank you for giving us this chance. I promise I won’t let you down this time.

Jessica’s face remained blank. t don’t know what you’re talking about. If there’s nothing else, you can leave now.

Brian said nothing, just glanced quietly at Jacob.

Jacob paused for a moment, then caught on immediately. He looked up at Jessica with bright, sparkling eyes and wheedled, Mom, can I start learning today?

No. I’m busy today.Jessica’s refusal was swift and decisive. She forced herself not to look at Jacob’s disappointed face.

Okay, Mom, you have to tell me when you’re free, okay?Jacob smiled.

Fortunately, Jacob had truly grown more understanding. Even though he felt disappointed after being turned down, he quickly adjusted his mood.

Jessica watched it all unfold, a heavy feeling settling in her chest. Jacob really was growing up.

She looked down at her feet and gave a quiet Mm.

Brian knew how to read the room. He bent down to take Jacob’s hand. Since Mom has things to do, we shouldn’t keep her. Say goodbye to Mom, Jacob.

Jacob obediently nodded. Okay, bye Mom.

Bye.Jessica looked up with a distant expression. She closed the door and took Brian’s breakfast into the elevator.

Since she’d promised Jacob she’d teach him to draw, Jessica went straight to find Sana when she got to the office. She needed to clear one to two half- days from her schedule each week.

You called the wrong number again.Sana rolled her eyes in exasperation and hung up.

What wrong number?Jessica had just walked up and caught the end of it.

It’s nothing. Jessi, what brings you here? Did you need to talk to me about something?Sana turned off her phone and gave a dismissive response. Inside, she couldn’t stop complaining about Wesley.

She had no idea what he was so busy with lately. He either called her number by mistake or sent her messages meant for someone else all day.

If she ignored him, she worried she might delay something essential for him to do. But when she did respond, he’d thank her and then always wanted to continue whatever conversation they’d been having.

She’d told him several times that he didn’t need to feel responsible for her, but he just wouldn’t get it.

Chapter 344

And now he wanted to meet up and talk. Sana had no idea what there was to talk about. It was utterly ridiculous.

Jessica watched Sana, who was clearly lost in thought again, and became even more certain she wasn’t being sincere. But she didn’t push for details.

After all, everyone had their secrets, and she wasn’t particularly curious anyway.

Starting next week, try to keep my Wednesday or Friday afternoons free,” Jessica said, getting straight to business.

Why?Unlike Jessica, Sana’s curiosity was definitely stronger. She couldn’t help but ask.

Jessica paused for a few seconds, then decided to be honest. I promised to teach Jake how to paint. I need to block out some time for that.

Sana’s eyes lit up with surprise. Wait, Jessi, you made up with them?

Jessica turned her head away. Not exactly. But if Jake wants to learn from me, there’s no harm in teaching him.”

She couldn’t keep pushing Jacob away forever.

The nightmares that had plagued her for several nights straight made Jessica realize something about herselfshe wasn’t as detached as she’d thought.

That makes sense.Sana thought about Jessica’s psychological struggles and felt this outcome was pretty good.

At least it was better than letting Jessica torture herself alone with all that internal conflict.

Anyway, that’s the situation. Just remember to clear my schedule.Jessica didn’t want to discuss it further and cut the conversation short.

Sana agreed and sent over the revised schedule that same morning.

Jessica looked it over, found no issues, and signed it immediately. We’ll go with this from now on.

She handed the document back to Sana and was about to dive into new paperwork when Sana leaned closer.

Jessi, are you free tomorrow?Sana asked.

What’s up?Jessica looked up from her files.

Sana remembered Wesley’s recent reminder and glanced at Jessica’s belly. She tried to sound casual. It’s nothing really. I just noticed you’re getting bigger, and I thought you might want to pick up some baby stuff. I’m free tomorrow anyway, so we could go shopping together.

Jessica paused, looking down at her belly, much larger than when she was pregnant with Jacob. She’d noticed her pajamas felt tight lately and let out a small laugh. You’re right, I totally forgot about that. I should probably get some things ahead of time.

She was carrying twins this time, which explained why she showed so much more.

She didn’t need to prepare much else, but she should at least buy two maternity nightgowns. She hadn’t been shopping in ages anyway, so it would be perfect for a trip out.

With that thought, Jessica agreed to Sana’s suggestion and arranged for her to pick her up from the apartment complex in the morning.

The next day brought overcast skiesblazing sun, no pouring rain. The mild weather was perfect for shopping.

Jessica and Sana strolled down the pedestrian street together, turning heads wherever they went. Several guys approached asking for their numbers, but both women brushed them off.

They ignored the attention completely, walking and shopping as they pleased. Soon their hands were full of bags

Seeing this, Sana offered, Jessi, there’s a maternity store up ahead. Why don’t you browse around while I take these bags back to the car? I’ll meet you
