“Given the circumstances, I’d like to give you something mild to help you relax, the doctor said, preparing a small syringe. “Just enough to take the edge off.”
“But what about Victoria?” I asked weakly.
“I got a phone call,” Liam continued, his voice thick with emotion. “At 3:17 AM.”
My heart stopped. How could he know that? No one but Chloe knew the full story. Tears filled my eyes. “I was scared. I thought you were engaged to Victoria. I thought- Dr. Evans nodded. “Given your condition and current stress levels, I recommend taking it easy for the next few days. I’ll leave you some mild sedatives if needed.
“About ten weeks,” I whispered.
I blinked, confused. I was lying on Damian’s couch, with a man I didn’t recognize checking my pulse.
Stella gave my hand a quick squeeze. “Let’s go find out why.”
“We went back to his hotel suite,” I whispered. “I’d never done anything like that before. But something about him felt right. We spent hours together, and then-”
“Is my son,” Liam finished, his voice breaking. “Our son.”
“What happened?” I mumbled.
“I love you, Hazel. I’ve loved you since that night three years ago. I love our son, and I already love this new baby. When you wake up, we’ll begin the rest of our lives together–no masks, no secrets. Just us.”
Hazel’s POV
“It’s okay,” the doctor assured me. “Mr. Sterling informed me about your pregnancy.”
“What happened?” I gasped, one hand instinctively going to my still–flat stomach. “Is it Leo? Is he okay?”
The doctor returned, looking concerned at my tears, “Ms. Vance, I think you should rest now. Your blood pressure is still high.”

I leaned into his touch, overwhelmed. “And now I’m pregnant again. With your baby.
Liam’s grip on my hands tightened.
The doctor–a middle–aged man with kind eyes–smiled at me. “Your vitals are stable, but your blood pressure’s a bit elevated. How far along are you?”
“Leo’s fine,” Chloe assured me. “He’s at my parents‘ house, having the time of his life.”
I nodded, feeling suddenly exhausted. As the doctor administered the medication, I felt the tension begin to ebb from my body.
I felt the color drain from my face. Liam knew.
The room seemed to freeze around us. I stared at him, unable to process what was happening.
“Then why is everyone looking at me like someone died?” I asked.
“She’s coming around,” a unfamiliar male voice said. “Ms. Vance, can you hear me?” My eyes drifted closed as sleep pulled me under, the last thing I saw being Liam’s violet–blue eyes–Leo’s eyes–watching over me with love and wonder.
“Chloe said to bring you to Damian’s house right away,” she replied, her voice tight. “That’s all I know.”
Liam nodded, his own eyes glistening. “I searched for you for years, Hazel. The woman in the red dress who smelled like jasmine and vanilla. The woman who disappeared the night my world fell apart.”
“I never knew your name,” I sobbed. “You were gone wi. I woke up. I thought you’d just left.”
“Shhh,” he soothed, sitting beside me on the couch. “We need to talk about something else first. Something important.”
I gasped, staring at him in shock.
After a few more checks, he stepped away to speak with Damian, leaving me alone with Liam. The room had cleared out, everyone giving us privacy.
“Stella, please tell me what’s going on,” I begged for the fifth time. “You’re scaring me.

“Everyone’s here,” I whispered, panic rising in my throat.
My eyes widened in shock. I glanced frantically at Liam, whose expression remained unreadable.
The truth crashed over me like a wave. Leo’s violet–blue eyes. His square jaw. The way he and Liam had bonded so quickly, so naturally. It had been there all along.
As the sedative took effect, I heard Liam’s voice growing distant.
Liam nodded, encouraging me to continue.
We pulled up to Damian’s mansion, and I spotted several familiar cars in the driveway. My heart hammered against my ribs.
My mind raced through terrible possibilities. Was Leo hurt? Had something happened to Chloe? Or worse–to Liam?
“I tried to find you,” Liam said, cupping my face. “For three years, I looked for the woman from the ball. And then fate brought you right to my door. My Hazel. My son’s mother.”
Liam explained the situation briefly to Dr. Evans, who nodded in understanding.
“What are you talking about?” I whispered.
I looked down at our joined hands. “I met someone. A man in a black mask with the most unusual eyes I’d ever seen. Violet–blue, like…”
“There’s nothing between Victoria and me,” he insisted. It was a business
arrangement, nothing more. We ended it days ago.”
“We danced,” I continued, my voice shaking. “We talked for hours. I never told him my name, and he never told me his. It felt…magical. Safe.”
My stomach churned as Stella drove faster than usual through the city streets. Her knuckles were white against the steering wheel, her usual cheerful demeanor replaced by a tense silence.
“How do you know about that night?” I asked, my voice trembling.
I covered my mouth with my hand. “Leo-”
“I wore a red dress,” I said, the memories flooding back. “Chloe gave me her mother’s

perfume to wear. We had masks that covered half our faces.”
Relief flooded through me, immediately followed by another wave of dizziness. The room seemed to spin.
The room tilted suddenly. Black spots danced in my vision. I heard someone call my name before everything went dark.
I woke to gentle tapping on my cheeks and Liam’s worried face hovering above me.
