Chapter 30
After the production team released their statement, the wild rumors began to fade.
But discussions only grew more heated.
[Seriously? Did they really get food poisoning? How could you let Emily go through this? She turned down so many jobs! I can’t believe it! The Leisure Life team should apologize as a group!]
[No way! A production this big didn’t notice something like that? Who poisoned the food? What about Xena? She finally got to be on the show with her brother, and this is how you treat her? You all should apologize!]
[Hold on, let’s think this through. If it’s food poisoning, there had to be food involved, right? According to the timeline, it was that meal cooked by Emily, wasn’t it? That’s terrifying–bad food and a near–death experience!]
[The internet isn’t a free–for–all. Stop spreading baseless rumors. Let’s wait for the official updates and don’t pin this on Emily; we won’t accept that!]
[Ah, now I feel better! Jackson, Janie, and David didn’t eat that meal! They must be fine!]
Both Jackson and David’s agencies confirmed their safety, putting their fans at ease.
Meanwhile, Jackson and David were still eagerly scrolling through the trending topics, while Janie sat nearby, uninterested, flipping through her book.
At that moment, the director and the others finally returned, looking exhausted.
Janie closed her book, and Jackson and David set aside their phones.
David expressed concern, “Mr. Walker, you’ve all worked so hard. Please, have a seat and drink some water!”
The director and the others quickly gulped it down and then collapsed onto the sofa.
The director said, “This situation has had a major impact, so we need to pause recording for now. Thank you all for your hard work today.”
Once the director finished speaking, Molly immediately stood up and thanked Janie, “Miss Janie, thank you! We owe this to you!”
Thinking of Jason, Emily, and Xena’s misfortunes, she felt a wave of relief, grateful she had trusted Janie; otherwise, she might still be in the hospital!
Others chimed in with their thanks.
After so many years, Janie had grown used to such gratitude and showed no reaction.
With her expression unchanged, Janie replied calmly, “No need to thank me; you all work with Jackson. It was just a small favor.”
Jackson couldn’t help but smile, flooded with happiness at the realization that Janie cares about him.
Everyone paused, then collectively thanked Jackson.
Jackson waved his hand. “It’s nothing. It’s all thanks to Janie, not me.”
He turned to the director. “So, can we go home now that we’ve stopped recording?”

The director hesitated, “Of course, you can head home or stay here if you prefer, Um… if you’re willing, could you join us at the hospital tomorrow? We might need your help regarding some related matters
Jackson frowned, glancing at Janie, knowing that with Xena’s status in the Jenkins family, they were likely to run into other family members, and he didn’t want her to feel uncomfortable around them.
Janie nodded, “Sure,”
She understood Jackson’s worries, but she saw no reason to hide from the Jenkins family since she hadn’t done anything to be ashamed of
Jackson finally relented.
David also agreed to go.
The director sighed in relief and then looked at David. “David, I heard Emily is also related to you. Do you want to check on her?”
David replied, “Mr. Walker, we’re not really close, implying that he had no intention of visiting or caring for Emily.
He knew that Emily often used their family connection for publicity, but he didn’t want to deal with that.
His dislike for her had only grown, making it even less likely he would visit, and caring for her was completely out of the question.
The director nodded, not surprised by his response.
They didn’t want to talk about Emily right now, especially since it was still unclear whether she had caused this intentionally; even if it wasn’t on purpose, such a serious incident–one that nearly cost a life–had left them feeling very frustrated.
Reflecting on today’s events, the production team remained overwhelmed with fear, sighing heavily as their emotions swirled in turmoil.
“Everyone was rattled today, so please get some rest. Tomorrow, we’ll go to the hospital together. After that, feel free to come back if you want, or head home if that’s what you prefer,” the director said.
The next day, Janic, Jackson, and David went to the hospital with the production team.
As a variety show featuring A–list stars, it drew intense attention, with numerous media outlets and paparazzi waiting outside.
They finally made it to the hospital, and just as Ryan stepped out, he spotted Janie. “Janie!”
Ryan rushed over, a bit pleased. Despite being let down by her yesterday, he was glad she showed up today, signaling she still cared about their family.
Jackson stepped in to block him.
Ryan halted, realizing he was being overly eager.
“Janie, Jackson, David, are you all here to see Xena and the others?” he asked.
It was clear to anyone that the relationship between Janie, Jackson, and the Jenkins family was complicated and strained, which naturally led David to side with them.
David remained silent, instinctively looking at Janie.

Before Janie could respond, Jackson quickly interjected, “Of course not. We’re here at the production team’s request to help out. You’re overthinking it, aren’t you?”
Ryan was speechless and felt as if he had been doused with cold water, bringing him back to reality.
