Chapter 95
“There’s no freedom at St. Gabriel Reform Academy, but they give him meals and a roof over his head, plus plenty of kids his age to hang out with. That’s a lot better than when we were. If anything, he should be thanking me.”
Watching him wear that smug, self-righteous expression as if he’d just performed some grand service, Emily felt fury rising in her chest.
In her mind’s eye, Emily saw Jackson’s harrowing ordeal at St. Gabriel Reform Academy and the haunting image of his final, suffering moments.
She finally snapped. Emily lunged forward, delivering a stinging slap across Xavier’s face. The sharp crack of her slap froze his smug expression, leaving him too stunned to react for a long moment.
Emily said, “You want to know what message he left for you? Well, I’ll never tell you, not in this lifetime. If you’re so desperate to know, go ask him yourself.
“No. You’ll never see him again. Someone as kind and extraordinary as him belongs in heaven. But you? You deserve to rot in hell.”
Still reeling from the stinging slap, Xavier’s head snapped up. “What did you say?” he demanded, his voice raw. “What do you mean by that?”
He suddenly lunged forward and seized Emily with her shoulders, his grip so tight and desperate it seemed as if he might shatter her bones.
“What do you mean I’ll never see him again? What’s this about him going to heaven? Tell me. What happened to him?” Xavier demanded, his voice trembling with panic.
His bloodshot eyes burned with intensity, one side of his face still swollen from the slap, his expression a tumult of panic, fear, and tension.
Emily let out a mirthless laugh. “If St. Gabriel Reform Academy were really just as simple as a prison, do you honestly think someone like Jackson wouldn’t have managed to get even a single word out?”
Unable to help his mother gain recognition as the legitimate wife, and burdened with caring for a younger brother born with congenital heart disease, Jackson had no choice but to mature early, mastering a wide array of skills from a young age.
He was a master hacker. Emily’s safe escape from St. Gabriel Reform Academy hinged entirely on his hacking expertise.
Emily asked, “If St. Gabriel Reform Academy were really just a glorified prison like you claimed, do you honestly think someone as resourceful as Jackson wouldn’t have found a way to get word out?”
Xavier’s face went deathly pale, his grip on Emily’s shoulder slackening involuntarily as his hand trembled uncontrollably.
Emily was satisfied with his reaction, but she wasn’t done yet.
Emily continued, her voice like ice, “Your brother Jackson, the one who protected you his whole life, only for you
to personally send him to St. Gabriel Reform Academy, has been dead for six months.”

Xavier staggered, his grip on Emily slackening as his hand fell limply to his side.
Emily seized his wrist, stopping his retreat. She said coldly, “He died right in front of me with his eyes wide open, his face twisted with unwillingness. He never even closed them to death.”
Emily said coldly, “And the day he died? It was your birthday.”
Emily forced Xavier to meet her gaze, her voice dripping with cruel precision. “He told me that when you were little, every single birthday wish you made was to celebrate all your future birthdays with him.
