Chapter 84
Lydia saw it all and gritted her teeth tightly. She thought, “They always said I was the Bennett family’s only princess, but deep down, they still couldn’t cut ties with Emily.’
Trying to stay calm, Lydia stepped out from behind Lucas and said, “Emily, it’s just a misunderstanding. Why don’t you just apologize to Dad?
“He may not be your real father, but he has always treated you like his own. I mean, faking a kidnapping for money was too much, so it’s normal that Dad is mad.
“Just apologize to Dad, okay? I’m sure he’ll forgive you and let you stay.”
The moment Lydia finished speaking, the Bennett family’s gazes toward Emily shifted subtly, as if waiting for her to soften and give in.
Emily, like the rest of the Bennett family, used to believe in Lydia’s sweet and gentle act. She would have thought those words came from genuine concern, but now, she could see clearly that Lydia couldn’t wait to see her gone.
Emily sneered and said, “Ms. Bennett, you act like you want me to stay, yet you keep harping on how I faked a kidnapping and how the Bennett family favors you.
“If you want me out, just say it. Don’t act like I’m the one who won’t let go.”
Lydia hadn’t expected Emily to call her out so bluntly, and she felt awkward. She thought, ‘Since when did she become so smart? She would have panicked and denied everything if it were two years ago.’
Lydia quickly pulled herself together, rushing to explain, “That’s not what I meant. I—”
“Ms. Bennett, I don’t care whether you meant it or not. All I want to say is I’m done being a Bennett,” Emily cut her off, tired of the drama.
Emily was utterly exhausted, and this argument was a waste of time for her. She still had work tomorrow, and all she needed was rest. With her cheek still swollen, she looked at them coldly. “I’ll move out right away, but I have one condition.”
The moment she mentioned a request, they all had the same thought. ‘There it is. No way Emily would really walk away from all this after fighting with Lydia for so long. She must be planning to ask for something just to stay.
They were certain Emily was about to stir up trouble, so they just stood there, heads held high, waiting to hear her plan, ready to shut her down the moment she spoke.
All eyes were fixed on Emily, so no one noticed the subtle shifts in Lydia’s expression. She was dying for Emily to leave, so she could be the only girl in the Bennett family and get all the attention.
However, then it hit her-she had come back to take everything from Emily. Even after two years away, Emily still mattered to the Bennett family. If they truly let her go, Lydia feared things might unfold in a way she didn’t expect.
Nobody noticed the look on Lydia’s face except Emily who spared her a glance but didn’t care enough to look
twice.
