Chapter 82
“Just because we let you come back doesn’t mean you can mess with Lydia. Honestly, you’re nothing compared to her,” Lucas said with a wary, warning look.
Andrew said, “You’re only here because we hoped you’d stop causing trouble. It doesn’t mean we think what you did was okay. If something like today happens again and it hits the company, we’ll have to cut ties with you.”
Emily pursed her lips. She thought, ‘Well, it’s all about the company.’ However, the way they all took Lydia’s side didn’t bother her at all.
She said, “When did I ever say I wanted to come back? Let’s be real, I was never part of the Bennett family. No need to pretend like you’re doing me a favor.”
Lucas sneered, clearly not buying her words. “Don’t give me that ‘I don’t care’ crap. You’re probably over the moon inside. Do you think we’re dumb enough to fall for this little push-and-pull act?”
He looked at Emily with pure disdain. “If you truly didn’t care, you wouldn’t have staged that whole kidnapping stuff.”
Emily sneered. “You were the ones who claimed I staged the kidnapping, and then you turned around and stopped the police from investigating. I know what you guys are thinking.”
Lucas, always the most impulsive, exploded. He said, “What’s that supposed to mean? Are you saying we framed you?”
Emily stared at him with a straight face. “Do you still think I made it all up? Then let the police come back and see for themselves.”
“Why do you think I did this? I was trying to protect you.” Andrew shouted, “Filing a false report could get you detained. If the media finds out you staged a scam, your name will be ruined, and the company will take a hit too.”
Since taking over the Bennett Group, Andrew had always put the company before everything else.
Emily sneered and said, “Oh, here we go again. I’ve had enough of you using that excuse to justify your disgusting actions.”
Emily stared at them, her eyes reddening with anger. “You stopped seeing me as family long ago, and I don’t want to be part of the Bennett family either.
“My reputation has nothing to do with you. As for the Bennett Group, I don’t give a damn about it. Even if it goes down tomorrow, that’s on you.”
Suddenly, Gale slapped Emily, yanking her back from the edge of her fury.
Everyone was stunned. No one thought Gale, who hadn’t said a word so far, would suddenly lash out.
Emily turned her head slightly, feeling the sting as Gale roared, “What the hell are you saying? The Bennett family raised you for eighteen years. You’ve got no right to say that.”
Emily turned her head back slowly, her cheek burning. She had already escaped St. Gabriel Reform Academy, but somehow, she was getting hurt more now than she ever did there.
