Chapter 80

Lydia glanced at the stunned Lucas and anxiously asked, “What do we do now? If the police find out the kidnapping was staged by Emily, they would arrest her for calling in a fake emergency.

“If she gets fined, whatever, but she may be taken away, which will hurt her reputation. I’m sure no one wants to sec that happen.”

Lydia was totally freaked out, almost crying. She said, “Emily, you’re way too impulsive. What should we do now?”

Lucas came back to his senses and quickly tried to soothe her. “Lydia, she brought this on herself. You don’t have to feel sorry for her.”

Lydia shook her head in disagreement. “Even though Emily never really liked me, I couldn’t bear to see her go through this.

“Besides, if the news of her arrest spreads, it will affect the company, our parents, and even us. I don’t want that to happen.”

Lydia, clearly worried, grabbed Lucas’s hand and said, “Should we call Andrew? Maybe he knows what to do.”

Lucas swallowed his anger and nodded. “Fine, I’m calling him now.”

He made the call and exaggerated the situation, stressing how damaging it could be to the Bennett Group if the matter escalated.

When the police arrived at the Bennett villa, they happened to run into Gale and Andrew who were just rushing back.

Andrew pushed up his glasses and went ahead to hand them his business card. “Hi, I’m Andrew, CEO of the Bennett Group. Thank you both for coming to help. I’m sorry that this whole thing is just a misunderstanding.

“The person who filed the report is my younger sister. She has been at odds with the family and staged this to get our attention. There was never a real kidnapping.”

Gale nodded with a stern face and said, “Exactly. This is a family issue. Oh, by the way, I’m friends with your boss. I haven’t seen him in a while. Please say hello for me.”

Given the Bennett family’s influence in Cloudridge, and Andrew and Gale firmly calling it a misunderstanding, the police didn’t press the issue. Therefore, when Emily came out, she just saw them leaving.

She knew they would lie to the police, so when she heard the sirens, she quickly changed and came out, but it was too late.

After seeing the police off, Andrew turned and saw Emily standing there. He frowned and said, “Emily, you’ve gone too far this time.”

Emily shot him a look, stayed silent, and walked away. Anyway, Andrew never believed her, so there was no point arguing with him.

Andrew’s face darkened at her reaction. He shouted, “Stop.”
