Chapter 150
“And what exactly were you planning to talk with me about, Lydia?” Emily’s icy voice cut through the air like a blade.
Her face set in grim determination, Emily clutched the evidence folder tightly as she advanced toward Lydia with deliberate steps.
She moved with furious speed and an intimidating aura, sending Lydia instinctively scrambling behind Lucas.
Lucas frowned, his face full of wariness. “What the hell are you up to now, Emily?”
“Huh? You should be asking her,” Emily snarled, hurling the folder right at Lucas’s face. “Go on, and ask her why she paid off that waiter who came spewing nonsense right in front of Grandpa.
“What, is she suddenly so overflowing with sympathy that she just loves handing out cash to total strangers?”
Lydia’s face drained of color as she frantically shook her head, waving her hands in denial. “N-no, I didn’t. I swear.”
Lydia couldn’t understand how Emily had found out. ‘I was so careful. How did she know?’ She thought in disbelief.
Emily glared at Lydia and snapped, “Did you honestly think you could get away with it just by handing him cash in some blind spot without surveillance?”
Emily jabbed a finger at the evidence folder in Lucas’s hand. “There’s dashcam footage in there, clear as day, it shows you handing that waiter a wad of cash.”
Lydia’s face went utterly blank for a moment, her hands clenching into fists at her sides. She couldn’t believe it. After being so careful, she’d still made such a huge mistake.
Lydia seethed inwardly, ‘Why on earth is luck still on Emily’s side, even now?’
Lydia gritted her teeth, her eyes instantly welling up with tears. “I didn’t. I’ve never done anything like that. Lucas, do you believe me?”
The flicker of doubt in Lucas’s heart instantly melted into tender concern. “Of course, believe you,” he reassured her.
‘Lydia’s too kind-hearted to ever do something like this,’ Lucas thought firmly.
