Chapter 142

Since Emily had decided to confront Yvonne, she knew she had to be fully prepared. They had been rivals since childhood. Although she knew many of Yvonne’s secrets, there was only one that was powerful enough to make her back off from Louisa.

They had never gotten along. So even though she agreed to meet, Yvonne’s attitude was unpleasant. “Well, I never thought you’d ever ask to see me. What’s going on? Have you finally realized your position and come groveling to please me?”

She didn’t even bother to hide her contempt. After all, the sole reason she showed up today was to humiliate Emily.

But Emily didn’t flinch at her provocation. She remained calm and simply asked, “Do you remember that girl who jumped off the roof the day before the college entrance examination?”

Yvonne’s smug expression froze, quickly replaced by panic and fear. Shandell High School was the top school in Cloudridge; both Emily and Yvonne had studied there, though they were in different classes.

Emily used to be proud and aloof. Although she didn’t get along well with Yvonne, she never deliberately picked a fight. That was why Yvonne had always assumed there were certain things Emily didn’t know.

Yvonne’s eyes darted nervously as she grabbed the water cup and took a sip. “Wh-why are you suddenly bringing that up?”

Emily cast a glance at her trembling hand that was clutching the cup, and then said softly, “I happened to be on the rooftop when she jumped.”

The cup slipped from Yvonne’s hand, shattering into pieces. Water splashed onto her legs, the sudden cold making her shiver instinctively.

Emily’s face remained calm, as if none of Yvonne’s outburst had anything to do with her. The two sat in the café, and the loud crash instantly drew everyone’s attention. The waiter rushed over right away to clean up the mess.

Yvonne’s face turned pale as she motioned for the waiter to leave. Leaning forward with both hands on the table, she inquired, “What do you mean by that? Do you know something?”

Emily remained calm, staring directly at her but not answering right away. She hadn’t lied. She was actually on the rooftop when that girl jumped and even talked to her. Unfortunately, she couldn’t stop her.

When Yvonne was on the verge of being driven crazy by Emily’s calmness, Emily finally said, “Before she jumped, she told me something. Do you want to know what it was?”

Yvonne’s face went even paler as she slammed back into her chair. “Wh-what did she say to you?” Her voice shook just like her hands.

Emily put down the cup she had been holding and said coldly, “Does it really matter what she said?” Yvonne was stunned, not understanding what she meant.

Emily got straight to the point. “We never had any deep animosity, and our current situations are worlds apart. You don’t need to expend so much energy on me.
