Chapter 143
After leaving the café and making sure Yvonne was out of sight, Emily finally let out the breath she’d been holding.
Emily hadn’t lied to Yvonne. She was indeed on the rooftop when that female student jumped, and had actually spoken with her.
But when Emily was trying to persuade the girl to come down from the rooftop, the girl suddenly cried out, “Yvonne has pushed me to the brink. She’s completely ruined my life.”
With those final words, she leaped from the rooftop before Emily could say a word. Witnessing a life end right before her, Emily was so traumatized that she blacked out.
When she came to, Emily immediately told Andrew what the girl had said. But the girl’s eyes, filled with despair and agony, became Emily’s recurring nightmare for a long time.
The trauma left Emily seriously ill, and it wasn’t until after her recovery that Andrew told her what had happened afterward.
The school’s official investigation concluded that the female student who jumped from the building had committed suicide due to overwhelming academic pressure and clinical depression.
But Emily had heard rumors that the girl had been enduring Yvonne’s bullying since freshman year.

Back then, Andrew even came to persuade Emily, saying, “The Zwick and Shaw families have close business ties. If word gets out about Yvonne bullying her classmate, it’ll drag down the Shaw family, and Vincent along with it.”
Back then, Emily was head over heels for Vincent. With no proof linking Yvonne to the girl’s death, she agreed to Andrew’s suggestion and vowed to take this secret to the grave.
Emily had gone out of her way to avoid the whole matter, so much so that, to this day, she still didn’t even know the name of the girl who had jumped to her death right in

front of her.
Yet now, Emily had to leverage that girl’s tragedy to keep Yvonne in check.
‘I owed that girl a debt I could never repay,’ Emily thought and took a steadying breath. ‘Once I’ve saved up enough money, I need to look into that girl’s family. Maybe there’s something I can do to make it up to them.’
While she was at it, Emily also needed to look into Quiana Xaviel, a girl from Shandell High School who had transferred out during her senior year.
That was the person Emily had promised someone she would find, no matter what. That person also had things he wanted Emily to tell her.
After dealing with Yvonne, Emily went to the hospital to visit Charles.
Maybe because his birthday was coming up, Charles had been in high spirits lately. He even had two new suits custom-made.
