Chapter 138
He’d sworn to protect Emily for life. If anyone dared hurt her, he’d risk everything to keep her safe. Lucas thought, There’s got to be some kind of misunderstanding. Maybe Emily put Austin up saying all those things.’
‘What does an outsider like Austin know compared to my twenty years with Emily? She must have saying all those things. I have to find Emily and get to the bottom of this,’ Lucas thought.

‘Even if she’s resorting to such tactics just to get my attention, why did it have to be Austin of all people? And why would she let him call her sister?’ Lucas thought bitterly.
The more Lucas thought about it, the angrier he got. Without even being aware of it, he was once again subconsciously blaming Emily for everything.
Lucas didn’t realize how fast he was driving. Fuming with rage, he stormed back to the Bennett villa and barged straight into Emily’s room. Lucas didn’t find Emily there, but when he swung open the door, he froze in shock.
Compared with his and Lydia’s rooms, this one was surprisingly small. Besides a bed and a dressing table, the only piece of furniture left in the room was a single chair, making the space appear eerily empty.
The sight unsettlingly reminded Lucas of the room he’d just seen in the rental apartment. He thought, “This is the room Bob arranged for Emily. How could it possibly be like this?’
With Bob out on business, Lucas had no choice but to turn to servants for answers. “What’s wrong with Emily’s room? Have you been disobeying orders and bullying her again?”
Back then, when Bob found out Emily was living in the maid’s room, he scolded everyone in the Bennett family. In the end, they pinned it on two maids, claiming they’d secretly mistreated her, just to calm things down.
But everyone knew the truth, especially Lucas. He was the first to discover Emily was living in the maid’s room. Repeated the same lie enough times, and he even started to believe it.
At this moment, Lucas chose to believe that Emily was living in such a room because the servants were disobeying orders behind his back; rather than for the reason Austin had just explained to him.
Naturally, the servants weren’t about to take the blame for this. “It’s not our fault, Mr. Lucas. It was Ms. Emily herself who had everything removed from the room,” a servant stammered, eager to clear their name.
The servant explained. “Ms. Emily said she didn’t like having too much in the room, so she only kept a dressing table and had the rest moved out. Bob knows about this too.”
Lucas knew the servants wouldn’t dare lie to him. With this in mind, Lucas’s face turned ashen. The servants had no clue what was wrong with him and didn’t dare to ask. They could only exchange bewildered glances and stand rooted to the spot.
Lydia walked in on this strange scene. Looking puzzled, she walked over and asked, “What’s going on?”
Seeing Lydia, the servants, as if spotting a savior, quickly blurted out how Lucas had inexplicably accused them of mistreating Emily.
Having served the Bennett Family for years, the servant knew precisely how much the family doted on Lydia. So her first impulse was to turn to Lydia, hoping that Lydia would speak up for her.
